Al Tayer welcomed the UNDP Resident Representative who commended the role of DEWA and the successes it has achieved in sustainability. DEWA’s efforts support the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. They also contribute to achieving the vision of His Highness to promote the position of Dubai and make it a global hub for green economy, and a model of the highest energy efficiency standards to support the UAE Vision 2021 and the Dubai Plan 2021. This is achieved by implementing different programmes and initiatives such as the Dubai Carbon Ambassadors programme, launched by Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, and supported by DEWA and UNDP. The programme raises awareness on sustainability among all citizens and residents so that they are aware of the importance of saving resources, using them efficiently, and building a green economy.

The meeting discussed cooperation and coordination with the UAE Water Aid Foundation, which provides potable water to the needy, the disadvantaged, and those who are in distress around the world. It contributes to finding permanent and sustainable solutions to water scarcity around the world.

This is done using the latest technologies, desalinating water using solar power, and providing new and innovative technological solutions for communities that suffer from scarcity and contamination of drinking water.

The UAE Water Aid Foundation has established the UAE’s global position in humanitarian initiatives and humanitarian aid, and its leading role in promoting human solidarity. It has an effective role in international efforts to combat humanitarian challenges. The UAE has a strong presence in the areas of humanitarian aid and emergency and long-term aid in all parts of the world.

The UNDP resident coordinator has also commended the strategic partnership with DEWA, especially in preparing the State of Green Economy report, the Sustainability report, and the ongoing preparations for the World Energy Day activities on 22 October. He praised DEWA’s efforts which have achieved competitive results by adopting the Clean Development Mechanism in all its development projects.
