Abu Dhabi - MENA Herald: Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure and raising awareness on quality standards in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, has announced the third phase of the awareness drive on the Manaa consumer safety system.

Running from November 10 to 26, 2015, the campaign includes a variety of promotional activities on radio, print and online media as well as at major shopping malls in Abu Dhabi emirate.

The key highlight of phase III is a public competition which aims to promote the Manaa product recall and incident reporting system and encourage participants to share consumer safety messages and tips with their friends and families. As part of the competition, one lucky participant will win home makeover from Manaa.

To enter the competition, participants are required to spread the message of consumer safety and help protect their family and friends through referring as many friends as possible on Manaa system (www.manaa.ae)

The one who achieves the biggest number of referrals will be announced following the completion of the competition. To learn more about consumer safety, please visit Manaa website at www.manaa.ae.

Mohamed Helal Al Balooshi, Marketing & Communications Acting Director at Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), said: “We are pleased to present the third phase of Manaa awareness campaign which has witnessed huge success in its previous phases. The campaign has achieved many of its objectives and helped us spread awareness about consumer safety as well as the objectives and benefits of using Manaa system.

“The competition attracted huge interest from different segments of social media users including the citizens and residents of the UAE. The number of views on Facebook and Twitter in the first and second phases reached 6.3million with female users accounting for the majority of participants. This highlights the growing awareness of Abu Dhabi residents about their consumer rights.”

“At QCC, we are keen to leverage different channels to help raise the level of community awareness about the importance of making informed shopping decisions as well as purchasing products that comply with the local and international quality standards. In conducting such awareness drives, we seek to educate people about the harmful impact of faulty and dangerous products in line with our priority to ensure their safety and protecting consumer rights. We are confident that such efforts will help us create a better and safer market in Abu Dhabi.,” Al Balooshi added.

Al Balooshi congratulated Basem Albatta, the winner of phase II, who posted a question about consumer safety making him the winner of a two-night stay and round-trip ticket to watch a football match in Manchester.

Manaa is a first-of-its-kind interactive product recall and incident reporting system that allows consumers to view and identify products that have been withdrawn from the market for non-compliance to the UAE’s safety standards. The web-based system features images of the recalled products such as toys and electrical appliances, as well as model numbers and reasons for withdrawal. For added convenience of customers, the portal can be accessed on smart devices through downloading the app from the Apple and Samsung application stores.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products, while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. This is achieved through empowering regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. QCC also sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that the products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
