Abu Dhabi – MENA Herald: Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure and raising awareness on quality standards in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, has hosted the joint meeting of the 15th Standing Technical Committee (STC) made up of delegates from various Abu Dhabi government entities.

The meeting reviewed technical documents submitted to the committee for endorsement, and sanctioned two documents relating to in-building communications and utility corridors.

As part of the agenda, the meeting discussed ways of enhancing the technical document development process in Abu Dhabi and reviewed a progress report on the establishment of a Projects Evaluation Committee taking into consideration the following criteria: health and safety, economic impact, environmental aspects and security. Presentations were also made on the progress achieved in QCC’s standardization services to date as well as considering the new standardization projects proposed for 2016 by STC members.  

Sultan Saeed Al Mehairi, Director of Information Service and Engagement at QCC, said: “The joint meetings of the Standing Technical Committee reiterate our commitment to collaborating with different stakeholders from within the Abu Dhabi government to facilitate information exchange and map the requirements of each entity in the areas of standards, conformity assessment, market surveillance, consumer safety, measurement and testing. Such efforts eventually lead to the harmonization and development of new standards, specifications, guidelines and technical manuals.”

He added: “The joint meetings are also an opportunity for STC members to raise issues related to the ongoing standardization projects and discuss in detail project progress, future activities and milestones. Through effectively reinforcing unified standards and harmonized technical specifications, such interactions also support our sustained efforts to promote a solid quality infrastructure in Abu Dhabi as articulated by the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.”

QCC’s Standing Technical Committees (STCs) supervise the standardization projects carried out by working groups, and support the implementation of outcomes through continuous interaction with the Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA).

One of the core functions of the STCs is to unify the standards that are used in various sectors, and to encourage the use of UAE Standards (published by ESMA), as well as to identify the needs for Conformity Assessment and Certification Programs in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products, while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. This is achieved through empowering regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. QCC also sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that the products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
