Dubai – MENA Herald: The new Board of Directors of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC–UAE) Chapter met at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry premises recently to launch a new integrated plan of activities for the coming year while discussing ways to attract new members to the Chapter and to promote the ICC’s activities in the UAE.
Founded in 2004, the International Chamber of Commerce – United Arab Emirates (ICC–UAE) Chapter which represents the commercial, industrial and business enterprises in the country at a global level along with the Paris-based International Secretariat of ICC, promotes the scope and reach of the UAE business community around the world.
With its three Commissions on Banking, Customs and Trade Facilitation, and Arbitration, the ICC UAE Chapter’s mission is to promote cross-border trade and investment and the multilateral trading system by developing self-regulatory business codes and guidelines to spread best practices while establishing rules including Incoterms, banking and model commercial contracts.
During the meeting, the new Board which represents various commissions, charted out the ICC UAE Programme of Action for 2016 based on the Chapter’s vision, suggestions and recommendations from Chairman and Board of Directors of ICC UAE, Heads of Commissions and Members of ICC UAE.
The programme has been drafted in a way to fulfill the needs of the current economic and business community and in light of the economic and investment environment witnessed by the world and UAE currently and their future impacts. It also includes hosting of trainings and seminars and networking events with various UAE Chambers as well as ICC UAE’s participation in various regional and international events.
The Board approved the launch of new activities to promote membership and ICC products and services including training and seminars on key subjects relevant to the UAE, as well as events and conferences as networking platforms and publication of informative manuals on Incoterms 2010, and UCP 600.
H.E. Humaid Mohamed Ben Salem, Chairman, ICC UAE National Committee, said that the UAE members can benefit from the Global Network of 6.5 million members while getting the opportunity to communicate with more than 12,000 global Chambers of Commerce and Industry, while they also get access to the three commissions on Banking, Customs and Trade Facilitation, and Arbitration in their overseas dealings.
On his part, Hassan Al Hashemi, Secretary General, ICC-UAE Chapter, pointed out that the ICC-UAE focuses on providing the best services to its member companies through its extensive network and relationship with local chambers of commerce and the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry as well as the International Chamber of Commerce based in Paris.
He added that ICC-UAE Chapter represents the UAE business community and promotes its competitiveness in international business arenas while supporting them to be at the forefront of outstanding global businesses.
Al Hashemi also said that the ICC-UAE Chapter is keen to represent the local business community at the global level as it continues its efforts to organise more events that complement the Chambers’ strategy to raise awareness of international trade policies amongst the emirate’s business community.
