Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai Business Events (DBE), Dubai’s official convention bureau, recently took the next step in a global bid to host the International Federation of Oto-Rhino Laryngological Societies (IFOS) World Congress in 2021. The IFOS World Congress is held every four years and is the largest gathering of professionals in the field of oto-rhino-laryngology (ear, nose and throat).
The IFOS decision makers were given the opportunity to discover and fully unleash the city’s potential as a host destination for business events, touring the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) and other venue sites. The varied itinerary also included scientific and destination presentations.
A meeting with H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority rounded out the second day of the site visit, reassuring the bid committee of full support and excitement from the highest levels.
The visiting delegation attended a dinner hosted by resident Dr. Hussein Al Rand, Under Secretary for the Ministry of Health and President of Emirates Ear, Nose and Throat Society and other experts to discuss the healthcare offering and latest industry developments in Dubai.
The international delegation attended meetings with officials from the Ministry of Health as well as the Dr. Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, Director General of Dubai Health Authority (DHA), followed by a site inspection and lunch at the Conrad Dubai. The afternoon was kicked-off by H.E. Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) who lead a site inspection at DICEC’s onsite hotels including the Novotel, Ibis and DWTC Apartments.
Hamad Bin Mejren, Senior Vice President, Dubai Events and Convention Bureau a Division of Dubai Tourism, commented: “Dubai is well placed to host events like IFOS, not only because of our infrastructure and unique experiences but also because of knowledge. Now, more than ever, we are focused on growing Dubai as a knowledge hub, and the healthcare sector is a large part of that knowledge base and hosting events such as IFOS will only grow the knowledge we have in Dubai.”
The last two days on the agenda were fully dedicated to explore the full spectrum of the city’s cultural and recreational offering, including a Sea Wings tour, Desert Safari experience and a half day city tour spanning Old Dubai and the Creek Side all the way up to Downtown Dubai and At the Top of Burj Khalifa.
Following the official agenda, DBE extended an invitation to attend the 6th edition of the annual Emirates Otorhinolaryngology Audiology and Communication Disorders Congress held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority. The regional conference brought together ENT specialists, Neurologists and other Allied Health Professionals for knowledge exchange and transfer on best practices in the field.
DBE once again set stage for Dubai as must experience and fast-evolving global destination for business events, and demonstrated its commitment to hosting world-class events such as the IFOS World Congress through a well-balanced and nuanced itinerary including meetings with its longstanding partners such as Emirates Airlines. The winning city will be announced during the World Congress XXI in 2017 in Paris.
