Tuesday 23 February 2016

Cairo - MENA Herald: Ten graduate programs at The American University in Cairo (AUC) were recently ranked among the top in Africa and best 200 worldwide in Eduniversal’s Best Master's Rankings for 2015 - 2016, with six of these graduate programs rated first in their fields. The master's programs that ranked number one are: Master of Global Affairs, Master of Public Administration and Master of Arts in journalism and mass communication in the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP); the Executive MBA and Master of Arts in economics in the School of Business; and the School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE) graduate program in electrical engineering.
The Master of Arts in business administration and Master of Science in finance in the School of Business came in third, along with SSE’s Master of Science in electronics and communications engineering with a concentration in management of technology. Ranked fourth is the Diploma in International and Comparative Law (LLM) offered by GAPP.
This year's results, with more than half of AUC's ranked programs coming in first, illustrate the excellence of graduate study at AUC and reaffirm the University’s status as a leading academic institution in the region, said Adham Ramadan, dean of graduate studies and professor of chemistry at AUC. “These recent rankings reflect the quality of graduate studies at AUC,” he noted. “I am delighted with them, but I am not surprised. AUC’s graduate programs have always been committed to excellence.”
This is not the first time AUC has topped global rankings. Eduniversal has ranked several AUC graduate programs among the top five in Africa and top 200 worldwide for the past three years. AUC also has the top MBA program in the region, according to Forbes Middle East, ranking first in 2012 among similar programs in 37 private universities in the Arab world. In addition, for five consecutive years, AUC has been rated by QS World University Rankings as one of “the world’s highest-performing universities,” coming in at 345, several positions higher than its ranking last year and the highest it has been since AUC entered the QS ranking in 2011.
Dean Ramadan expects AUC’s graduate programs will continue to excel in future rankings. “Moving forward, I am confident that these programs will not only maintain these rankings, but also improve, and that other graduate programs will also come to be recognized for their quality,” he affirmed.
