Saturday 27 February 2016

Dubai - MENA Herald: Celebrity chefs participating in the 3rd edition of Dubai Food Festival launched their series of fun and interactive masterclasses for foodies looking to hone their skills in the kitchen.

The masterclasses presented by Al Islami started on Friday, 26 February at Dubai's School of Culinary and Finishing Arts (SCAFA) with the legends from Australia, chefs George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan and Shannon Bennett sharing their knowledge, while Chefs Manu Feildel, Matt Moran and ‘Queen of the Arabian Kitchen’, Manal Al Alem continued the unique and engaging sessions on Saturday, 27 February.

The exclusive culinary workshops witnessed excellent interest from the public and attracted several food connoisseurs who were eager to learn from some of the world’s best chefs. During the classes, chefs provided first-hand instructions, passing on skills and giving plenty of expert advice on preparing the dishes. Participants then had to put the acquired knowledge into action and cook the same dishes in front of their favorite chefs.

The celebrity chefs also interacted with the audience, responding to a range of questions, and while judging the participant’s dish commented on the taste, presentation and technique. Some of the many delicious dishes cooked under supervision were: Canadian Lobster with Kombu Butter, Scallop Boudin with Crab Bisque sauce and Chicken machboos and Rose Konafa.

Commenting on the masterclasses, Chef George Calombaris said: “It was a lot of fun and we received a great reaction from the audience. It’s good to be here and be a part of this wonderful event with people who love to cook.”

Chef Shannon Bennett added: “The class was all about teaching people who love to eat and cook food. It was a great experience, there was so much passion in the kitchen.”

The Masterclass series presented by Al Islami is part of the impressive line-up of events and activities that cater to the various tastes of visitors during the Dubai Food Festival, organised by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

Another world-class event at the Dubai Food Festival will be the ‘Local Greats Masterclass Series’ that is also presented by Al Islami, which will be hosted by celebrated chefs from Dubai restaurants including Coya, TRESIND, The Sum Of Us and Jean-Georges, from March 8-11.
