United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) partners with Responsible Finance Summit

Kuala lumpur - MENA Herald: The Responsible Finance Summit announced today that it has partnered up with the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI). Hosted by Bank Negara Malaysia, organized by the RFI Foundation and co-organized by Middle East Global Advisors, the Summit will gathering pioneers from the traditional responsible finance and Islamic finance industries to forge alliances for greater impact of the industry.

The PRI Initiative is an international network of investors working together to put six Principles for Responsible Investment into practice. Its goal is to understand the implications of sustainability for investors and support signatories to incorporate these issues into their investment decision making and ownership practices. Since its inception in 2005, the PRI has evolved into benchmark for the bourgeoning global appetite among investors for responsible investing.

Representing the PRI will be Jessica Robinson, the organisation’s Head of Asia (ex-Asia), who shared: “Responsible finance should be core to asset owners and managers as a way to manage risk and enhance returns. The principles underlying Islamic finance are closely aligned with environmental, social and governance considerations. Leveraging synergies can facilitate sharing of best practices, thereby bringing benefits to society.”

Ms. Robinson will be joined at the Summit by Georg Kell who is the founding Executive Director of the United National Global Compact and who oversaw the conception and launch of the UNPRI. Currently, Georg is the Vice Chaiman of Arabesque Partners, an Anglo-German asset management firm offering a quantitative approach to sustainable investing.

Relatedly, SEDCO Capital, a leading Saudi asset manager and only Sharia-compliant signatory of the UNPRI, has partnered with the Summit and will be represented by its CEO, Hassan Al Jabri.

The Responsible Finance Summit will take place on 30-31 March in Kuala Lumpur’s Sasana Kijang, a renowned center for knowledge and learning excellence established by Bank Negara Malaysia.
