Sharjah - MENA Herald: Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) is participating in a promotional tour of China and Hong Kong under the umbrella of National Council for Tourism and Antiquities from March 28 to April 1 to attract more tourists to the emirate from these markets.

During the tour, SCTDA will promote the emirate’s latest tourism products and facilities and explore opportunities for joint cooperation with potential partners in China and Hong Kong.

The UAE delegation, comprising representatives from tourism agencies from all the emirates, will organise road shows in three cities – Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong – highlighting the tourism potential offered by the UAE.

Commenting on the tour programme, His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, said that China and Hong Kong are major markets for the UAE’s tourism sector. China, in particular, is becoming an increasingly important growth market for hotel guests each year to the country’s various emirates, including Sharjah, he said.

HE Al Midfa underscored the importance of intensifying promotional campaigns in these promising markets pointing out that the number of Chinese visitors to Sharjah has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, increasing 78% in 2015.

Expressing SCTDA’s keen interest to participate in the promotional tours organised by the National Council for Tourism and Antiquities, HE Al Midfa said these tours will contribute to the growth of the tourism sector in the country and provide opportunities for industry entities in each emirate to highlight the diversity of their tourism products.

HE Al Midfa commended the effective role of the National Council for Tourism and Antiquities in promoting the country’s tourism industry at international forums, and providing opportunities for tourism organisations to communicate directly with entities in key markets.
SCTDA’s participation in the promotional tour to China and Hong Kong follows its recent successful campaigns in major travel and tourism platforms, most notably its participation in ITB Berlin and Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition. The Authority is also preparing for a number of engagements in the local, regional and international markets in the coming months.
