Big Data-driven operations key to the future growth of global maritime industry: Saudi Arabia’s Bahri

Dubai - MENA Herald: Bahri, the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia called for industry-wide deployment of Big Data-driven operations to ensure sustainable growth and increased contribution to the development of the maritime industry and its potential impact on global economy. Anwar Siddiqui, Advisor to the CEO of Bahri was a speaker at the 3rd Annual Smart Data Summit Dubai held on 23rd and 24th May at Sofitel, The Palm Resort & Spa Dubai where he presented on the “Value of Big data and its role in the future of the maritime industry”

The Summit convened senior management executives, industry experts and data analysts to speak about their experience in the use of data driven services to optimize their operations.

Bahri is using big data to streamline and enhance their operations and customer service. An example of this would be a model they have termed Next Best Cargo which suggests based on calculation and various factors which is the most lucrative cargo a charterer would consider.

“The global impact of big data is immense and it is playing a key role in the future of the shipping industry, as well as serving to step up the pace of economic development in countries throughout the world including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UAE.”

The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia - Bahri was established in 1979 and is one of the largest providers of maritime services in the Middle East. The company and its subsidiaries purchase, charter and operate vessels for the transportation of crude oil, chemicals, dry bulk and general cargo. For this purpose, Bahri owns and operates a fleet of double hull very large crude carriers, chemical carriers, dry bulk carriers and multipurpose state of the art Ro-Ro vessels. The company owns 36 VLCCs, 4 MRs, 1 Aframax, 26 IMOII chemical tankers, 5 product tankers, 6 multipurpose vessels and 5 Dry-Bulk Carriers.
