Ras Al Khaimah – MENA Herald: RAK Properties PJSC, Ras Al Khaimah’s biggest property developer, has successfully completed a RAK Waste Management Authority pilot scheme launched at Mina Al Arab. During the project, which took place during August, the waterfront community recycled more than 305kg of waste, and has firmly positioned the development as a leading example of eco-sustainability in the emirate.

Mina Al Arab was chosen as the pilot location for the recycling scheme, which was the idea of French students undergoing a six week internship with RAK Waste Management Authority. Working together with RAK Properties, the team developed a scheme that created a user friendly approach to recycling food waste and packaging that was implemented to the residents living in the Lagoon Apartments.

The pilot marks a milestone in Ras Al Khaimah’s efforts in working towards the UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda, which focuses on increasing the contribution of clean energy, and reduction of waste as a country. As part of the initiative a new infrastructure will be set out, regulating communities and households across the UAE in becoming eco-sustainable, and improving the quality of life for all citizens in the future.

“RAK Properties is committed to advancing its methods of waste collection within its communities, and leading by example in Ras Al Khaimah on its social and eco policies” Paul Ashton, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, RAK Properties, said.

“The latest scheme launched with RAK Waste Management Authority at Mina Al Arab is just one element of how we are looking to develop similar projects across our portfolio within the UAE and we will look to build on this recent success for future eco-sustainable initiatives

Within the community of Mina Al Arab we are working to further develop our ability to create a healthier environment for all our residents”

“Maintaining Mina Al Arab’s eco friendly community is paramount to RAK Properties, ensuring the environment and marine wildlife is preserved. RAK Properties is looking to implement waste management on a permanent basis, and this latest trial, is a step closer to achieving this”
