Emirates Leisure Retail Australia takes home string of industry awards for Hudsons Coffee

Wednesday 31 August 2016

Sydney – MENA Herald: Emirates Leisure Retail Australia (ELRA) is celebrating a series of prestigious industry awards for its Hudsons Coffee brand. Fresh from taking home the title of Global ‘Best Airport Coffee Shop of the Year’ for its store at Brisbane Airport at the 2016 Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) Conference & Awards, ELRA has been awarded a Silver medal for Interior Design at the 2016 Sydney Design Awards + Summit for its new Hudsons Coffee at Sydney Airport.
The two awards not only acknowledge the company’s growing popularity among airport passengers but also reinforces its key contribution to the overall growth of the Travel Retail sector.
Hosted by the Moodie Davitt Report, the FAB Award win was in recognition of its ability to ensure Hudsons Coffee connected seamlessly with the rest of Brisbane Airport. It was also praised for delivering both expert functionality and striking aesthetic appeal, and creating a strong sense of place while delivering impressive commercial returns – all within a 30sqm space.
Meanwhile, ELRA was up against some strong contenders in the highly competitive Hospitality category at the esteemed 2016 Sydney Design Awards + Summit. ELRA, together with Sydney Airport and Torcasio Design, was recognised for its ability to implement a functional yet innovative store design within a small space. It was also commended for reflecting Sydney’s vibrancy and youthful nature while retaining the spirit of Hudsons Coffee throughout.
Commenting on the wins, Adam Summerville, Managing Director of Emirates Leisure Retail Australia, said: “We are thrilled that our Brisbane and Sydney Hudsons Coffee stores have won these prestigious awards. Creating a real sense of place at the Brisbane outlet using local Queensland materials and cleverly utilising such a small space by designing the outlet around the existing clock tower is testament to our commitment to creating concepts that deliver an outstanding F&B product. In parallel, the Sydney outlet was a great collaboration with the Airport who wanted to see the spirit of Sydney coming through the store. Our great use of colour reflects the vibrancy of the harbour city and the energy of the Mardi-Gras and New Year’s Fireworks. We also hand-commissioned the painting of the walls to subtly show the iconic Sydney landmarks that are so globally recognized.”
Andrew Day, Group CEO and Chairman of Emirates Leisure Retail Australia, added: “I am delighted that the team in Australia has been recognized by both the Sydney Design Awards + Summit and Moodie Davitt Report for creating such exceptional Hudsons Coffee stores. These awards truly are a reflection of their hard work and the company’s commitment to creating world-class airport experiences for travellers and driving successful enduring partnerships with key international airports.”
Located on level 3 airside within Brisbane Airport and airside within Terminal One at Sydney Airport, the two award-winning Hudsons Coffee shops are part of an 80+ portfolio of outlets spanning airports, hospitals and city / regional locations.

As further evidence of its continued growth and success in the Travel Retail Sector, Emirates Leisure Retail (ELR) recently announced its tender win for a significant share of the F&B concessionaire contract at the new Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The leading airport retail and F&B group is also set to open three new premium and world-class tenancies at Sydney Airport later this year – the casual and fun dining concept, Bistro by Wolfgang Puck; Australia’s first ever Heineken House; and Kitchen by Mike from Sydney’s legendary chef Mike McEnearney.
“We are ambitious and above all, customer-orientated,” continued Day. “We will continue to introduce new culinary offerings to delight our guests, provide unforgettable gastronomic moments, and enhance the overall airport experience for travellers. With our new and highly anticipated openings at Sydney Airport later this year, which we will release more details of in due course, we aim to raise the bar once again, and look forward to taking guest experiences to even greater heights.”
ELR operates more than 260 outlets, with 75 airport premises catering to a potential audience of over 200 million passengers each year.
