DEWA and Huawei sign strategic partnership to accelerate smart city initiatives at GITEX 2016

Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Huawei, a global ICT solutions provider, today announced a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing cooperation in technical and scientific fields. The partnership is aligned with DEWA’s efforts to achieve the Smart Dubai initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
THE MoU aims to build a partnership to achieve the strategic objective of both parties. This includes providing DEWA with the support required to launch unique smart services by making use of the latest innovative technologies in the field of Information Technology. This will enhance DEWA’s position as a leading international organisation.
The partnership also aims to establish framework to launch more smart initiatives, and a develop innovative capabilities to implement the latest generation of technology. This will achieve the happiness of all customers. According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the parties will establish a joint team to launch pilot programmes using the latest technologies. This will help in the development of new innovative initiatives, including ready-to-market or immediately actionable initiatives, to Research and Development (R&D) projects.
The MoU also includes framework to develop Smart Grid infrastructure, and smart meters for Electricity and Water, Demand Side Management, and self-maintenance, framework for Telecommunication Infrastructure and DEWA’s Fiber Optic Backbone Upgrade, Big Data Management, System Structure, Analytics and Interactive Visualization, Perimeter and ICT Infrastructure Security, Cyber Security, and many others. The MoU was signed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and David Wang, CEO of Huawei UAE.

This will help DEWA develop its services and applications, at the highest international standards, and keep up to date with increasing demands across all fields,” said Al Tayer.

DEWA and Huawei signed the partnership during GITEX 2016, which is held from 16-20 October 2016 in Dubai. DEWA’s stand number is S2-D1, and is part of the Dubai Smart Government pavilion. DEWA is showcasing its latest technical achievements and the quantum leap in its smart and innovative services and initiatives to make a happy Dubai.
