Abu Dhabi Non-oil foreign trade records more than AED 84 billion during the first half of 2016

Abu Dhabi - MENA Herald: The General Administration of Customs – Abu Dhabi has announced the volume of non-oil foreign trade through various customs ports in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi during the first half of 2016. A total of AED 84 billion and 349 million was recorded, representing an increase worth AED 59 million compared to the first half of 2015.

The volume of imports through various customs ports in the Emirate during the first half of 2016 was worth AED 57 billion and 363 million, while the volume of non-oil exports was worth AED 17 billion and 305 million during the same period; representing a 2.9% increase compared to the first half of 2015. The volume of re-exports in Abu Dhabi during the first half of 2016 reached AED 9 billion and 681 million, an increase by 7.5% compared to the first half of 2015.

Commenting on this announcement, Mohammed Khadem Al Hameli, Acting Director General of the General Administration of Customs – Abu Dhabi said: “In line with the strategic vision to promote economic growth and prosperity, Abu Dhabi Customs continuously seeks to facilitate and accelerate customs’ procedures and operations across the Emirate’s different ports. This helps in maximizing Abu Dhabi’s economic competitiveness and increases its attractiveness to foreign investment. Also, Abu Dhabi Customs is committed to developing its E-Systems to become ‘smart’, and continues to identify new ways to collect customs’ revenues- in line with its significant role to help achieve Abu Dhabi’s strategic objectives and in accordance with the highest international standards.”

Al Hameli added: “The General Administration of Customs- Abu Dhabi plays an active role in maintaining a secure and prosperous society and protecting the environment. The Administration is also committed to enhancing inspectors’ skills by providing the necessary training programs, and offering them with advanced electronic and smart services to support their performance.”

Imports:
The volume of imports through various customs ports in the Emirate during the first half of 2016 was worth AED 57 billion and 363 million, representing a decrease of 1.9% compared to the first half of 2015 (AED 58 billion and 477 million).

The value distribution of imports across sea, air and land customs ports during the first half of 2016 was worth AED 32 billion and 653 million, representing 57% of the total value of non-oil imports to the Emirate. The total value of imports through air ports was worth AED 15 billion and 144 million, representing 26% of the total value of imports; while the value of imports through land ports was worth AED 9 billion and 566 million, representing 17% of the total value of imports. Among the most imported goods include machines and equipment mechanisms and electric powered equipment in addition to vehicles and transport equipment, parts and accessories thereof.
Non – oil exports:
The volume of non-oil exports through various customs ports in the Emirate was worth AED 17 billion and 305 million during the first half of 2016, representing an increase of 2.9% compared to AED 16 billion and 813 million in 2015.

The value of non-oil exports through sea customs ports for the first half of 2016 was worth AED 10 billion and 193 million, representing 59% of the total value of exports. The value of exports through air ports in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi was worth AED 3 billion and 242 million (19%), while the value of exports through land ports was worth AED 3 billion and 870 million, representing 22% of the total value of non-oil exports. The largest amount of products under the non-oil exports category include plastic, rubber and articles thereof as well as copper, aluminum and articles thereof, during the first of half of 2016.

Re-exports:
The volume of re-exports through various customs ports in the Emirate during the first half 2016 was worth AED 9.681 billion, representing an increase by 7.5% compared to (AED 9.001 billion).

The value of distribution of re-exports through airports for the first half 2016 was worth AED 7 billion and 490 million, representing 77% of the total value of re-exports. The value of re-exports through seaports was worth AED 1 billion and 155 million, representing 12% of the total value of re-exports for the first half of 2016. The value of re-exports through land ports was worth AED1.036 billion, representing 11% of the total value of re-exports. Among the most re-exported goods include machines and electrical equipment.
