Emirates Islamic and University of Sharjah join hands to support students in need of financial aid through the bank’s charity fund

Sharjah - MENA Herald: Emirates Islamic, one of the leading Islamic financial institutions in the UAE, today announced that it has joined hands with the University of Sharjah to support students in need of financial aid, through the Emirates Islamic Charity Fund.
During a meeting held at the University’s headquarters, attended by Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs at the University of Sharjah and Awatif Al Harmoodi, General Manager, Operational Quality & Processes at Emirates Islamic, the two parties discussed means of cooperation. Both parties agreed to extend support to students who require financial aid by disbursing payments towards their tuition fees.
Commenting on the initiative, Awatif Al Harmoodi said: “Education is central to the development and progress of communities, and a major factor in human development. We are pleased to cooperate with the University of Sharjah to provide financial assistance to students to help them complete their education. This initiative is part of our commitment to give back to the community, and embodies the true spirit of giving, according to the provisions of Islamic law. In cooperation with the University of Sharjah, we will evaluate individual cases and ensure that students who need financial support receive timely support.”
Dr. Salah Taher Al Haj expressed his gratitude to Emirates Islamic for launching this positive initiative, emphasising that the University of Sharjah is always keen to cooperate with various institutions in the UAE in support of the community. He added that the University’s commitment was in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the University of Sharjah, to strengthen the University’s role in cooperating with national institutions to support deserving community causes.
In 2016, Emirates Islamic launched the Emirates Islamic charity fund, to govern and manage the bank’s strategy for charitable donations and giving, one of the key pillars of the bank’s overall CSR framework.
The Emirates Islamic Charity Fund provides financial aid under several main areas, including food, shelter, health, education and social welfare. The fund has been set up with the primary objective of allocation of financial aid to large charities, public and private institutions, as well as individuals in need.
This year, the bank has so far distributed more than AED 30 million to various charitable causes. Emirates Islamic has disbursed funds towards medical and rehabilitation equipment to government and privately run institutions.
