Dubai - MENA Herald: Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) addressed potential occurring incidents by humans during the transportation and handling of hydrocarbons at the 9th ENOC & SIRE Workshop held at the Intercontinental Festival City in Dubai.

The SIRE programme is a uniform inspection system widely recognised by the marine industry that uses wide-ranging tools to evaluate the performance of ships, vessels and their related operators.

H.E. Saif Humaid Al Falasi, Group CEO, ENOC, said: “The oil and gas industry is highly dependent on the maritime and shipping sector to transport both raw materials and finished products to our customers across great distances. Petroleum and its associated products are high-value and high-risk, and therefore require a special set of guidelines for safe transport. The SIRE programme is a key facet of the region’s oil and gas industry, where colleagues from different backgrounds can discuss, debate and find solutions to the issues. At ENOC, we are delighted to be at the centre of these discussions and hope that this initiative will lead to meaningful collaborations and partnerships in the future.”

The initiative is a creation of the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF), an international organisation widely recognised its expertise in the safe and environmentally responsible transport and handling of hydrocarbons in ships and terminals, while setting standards for continuous improvement. This year’s workshop hosted more than 100 professionals from across the industry. Sessions included workshops that discussed emerging industry trends.

“I am honoured to give the keynote speech at the 2016 ENOC & SIRE Workshop. This event has developed into one of the leading marine assurance conferences in the Middle East today, with speakers from all over the world. This year the conference addressed the difficult subject of the human element which is the next area to be mastered to continue shipping’s road to an incident free operation.” Said Captain Andrew Cassels, Director of The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF).

An OCIMF member, ENOC has been involved in promoting the SIRE programme across its operations globally. Since the commencement of SIRE inspections in January 2008, ENOC Marine EHS Compliance has organised successful workshops that highlight safety and pollution prevention.
