Dubai - MENA Herald: The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry added another prestigious award to its list of achievements by winning Daman Corporate Health Award held recently at the Westin Golf Resort and Spa Abu Dhabi. Dubai Chamber won the most hotly contested award category, Best Health and Wellness Initiative among seven finalists beating the likes of Expo2020, New York University Abu Dhabi, Transguard Group, Air Arabia, Seadrill, Abu Dhabi Finance and Mashreq. Essa Al Zaabi, Senior Vice-President, Institutional Support Sector, Dubai Chamber, said: “It is great to see the recognition that we received for an engaging staff health programme that we initiated and have run in-house with great success over the last three years. “The recognition generated from winning this award will help us promote this programme among other entities, thereby helping fulfil our mission of supporting the development of business while contributing to the vision of the UAE,” he said. Sehhati, meaning my health in Arabic, is an innovative 10-week wellness programme launched by Dubai Chamber in 2014. Its unique design includes the latest health technologies, competitions, fitness sessions, individual coaching and assessments, and prizes. In 2016, more than 22% of staff participated in the third session of the initiative while losing a total of 70 kg of pure fat as they walked more than 22.9 million steps, the equivalent of walking from the UAE to the North Pole and back. Majority of them also attended stair climbing exercises and health and fitness workshops and lectures and agreed that the programme helped them exercise more, eat more healthily and be more aware about wellness. The launch of the wellness initiative affirms the importance of consolidating the concept of corporate social responsibility in the work environment of the Chamber through training programmes in first aid, fire-fighting and building evacuation as well as training courses on health and personal safety in the workplace. The Chamber has also launched several awareness-raising campaigns on professional safety practices through its website for visitors and members about facing danger in the workplace.
