Careem Kids Doubles Fleet

Dubai – MENA Herald: Reinforcing its commitment to road safety and the wellbeing of its customers, Careem, the region’s leading app-based car booking service, is set to double its Careem Kids fleet in the UAE.

Careem Kids is a unique service offering parents a dedicated Careem car that comes pre-installed with a child seat, with the option to add more seats upon request.

The move further strengthens Careem’s approach to leading by example and upholding the highest levels of passenger safety across all markets where it operates, while also promoting best practices on road safety in the region, to reduce the number of on-road fatalities.

Careem’s move to double its dedicated fleet for kids assumes particular significance in view of the fact that failure to wear seatbelts is the leading cause of child deaths from road traffic accidents. According to a recent report published in the local media, a shocking 98% of children in the UAE do not wear seat belts – the primary reason why car accidents were responsible for 63% of all child deaths in the country in 2015. The numbers from the year before are just as grim, with child deaths estimated to have accounted for 7.7 per cent of the 712 people killed as a result of car accidents in the UAE in 2014 – a figure that translates into an alarming fact, namely, that an average of one child died each week of the year.

Careem is looking to change this situation with its uncompromising emphasis on passenger safety, and now by further expanding the Careem Kids fleet that puts safety first and foremost, the company hopes to create greater public awareness and inculcate safe behavior among children through example.

Aura Lunde, GM of Careem UAE said: “When our customers book a service with us, our primary objective is to simplify their lives and when it comes to parents booking a car for their children, we want them to enjoy complete peace of mind, knowing that their children are in safe hands and in the watchful supervision of a company that stands by a zero-compromise policy when it comes to road safety.”

As a dedicated service for the UAE’s youngest passengers, Careem Kids has already established itself as a popular choice for working parents in the UAE and the decision to increase the number of cars in this dedicated fleet comes as Careem’s answer to meet the growing demand for this service.

“Our Careem Kids Captains share the same beliefs and are extremely focused on ensuring a safe and comfortable ride for our little customers. For Careem Kids, safety starts with a buckled-up child seat, so while our app may say Yalla when you initiate a booking, the car starts moving only after the necessary safety precautions are in place,”she added.
