Dubai – MENA Herald: Dubai’s DIFC Academy of Law (“the Academy of Law”) has partneredwith BARBRI International, the USA’s leading authority in Bar exam preparation, to offer new fast-track courses for GCC law graduates and lawyers to become qualified New York attorneys.
New York Bar qualifications are highly-valued in financial and commercial law, and successful candidates will be able to use the qualification to boost their careers in international law firms.
The six- and ten-month courses will run from the Academy’s headquarters in the Dubai International Financial Centre. Graduates with a Law degree from a Common Law jurisdiction – the legal system used in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, most of Canada, Nigeria and many other countries around the world – can apply for a place, but eligibility is decided by the New York Bar.
David Gallo, Director of the Academy of Law, said: “We are delighted to launch this programme with BARBRI International in furtherance of our mission to offer local legal education opportunities with global value. Now GCC residents have the option of becoming qualified New York lawyers to enhance their competencies as international commercial lawyers.”
BARBRI’s courses have helped 1.3 million students gain legal qualifications in the US, and include 24/7 access to teaching materials, personalized study plans, revision guides and exam practice, with support from experienced Course Directors.
The courses feature technology-enabledlectures by some of the USA’s top law professors, reinforced by on-site guidance from a qualified US Attorney. Course members will also have the chance to network and join in select events with international law firms, judges and other legal experts at the DIFC Courts. In addition, they will gain experience of pro bono legal work – the Academy’s support programme for legal petitioners without adequate funds.
Stephen Fredette, Chairman & CEO of BARBRI, said: “BARBRI is thrilled to launch our collaboration with the Academy of Law. This partnership will help provide quality practical education in US law to the legal community of Dubai and the entire GCC, supporting its goal of being at the centre of international commerce.”
