Students from GEMS International British Curriculum Schools across the United Arab Emirates have outperformed their counterparts in England once again in the IGCSE/GCSE examination results.
Fiona Cottam, Senior Vice President - Schools, GEMS Education, was delighted with this year’s results. “The outcomes achieved by GEMS students in today’s examination results are truly exceptional. They reflect tremendous hard work on the part of our students and are an accolade to the expertise of our teachers and staff. GEMS parents and families have also played a vital role in supporting the learning journey and I know that there is much cause for celebration today in homes across the globe as these GCSE / IGCSE results are received. Once again, our commitment to delivering the highest quality of education is clearly evidenced in these results with 42.1% of all grades at A* or A across the GEMS network, an increase of 2% from last year. UK statistics are not yet available but when compared to their national 2014 performance of 21%, we anticipate the gap in achievement to have widened even further. Our students are now prepared for the next stage of their journey through life, whether it be 6th Form studies or further studies and employment. IGCSE/GCSE examinations
GEMS witnessed an upward trend across all schools.
Particular highlights included Jumeirah College, whose students achieved 59.6% A* and A grades with 30 students gaining straight A*/A grades in all subjects and Wellington International School with 46.6% A* and A grades.
Remarkable performances from individual students at Wellington International School included Isbah Bandeali and Ivan Serdyuk who both achieved 9 A*s and 2 A's, and from Jumeirah College, Imran Majid with 10 A*s and 1 A grade and Rebecca Ludden with 9 A*s and 2 A’s. GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis had exceptional performances from students with Munira Rajkotwalla gaining 10 A*’s and 1 A and Jameela Nagri achieving 9 A*’s and 1 A grade.
