HBMSU first institution to ever receive the ‘Extraordinary Contribution Award’ from Ellucian

Dubai - MENA Herald: Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU), received the ‘Extraordinary Contribution Award’ during the Ellucian Live Middle East Conference 2015 held at the Madinat Jumeirah Conference and Event Centre, Dubai. The three-day event was hosted by Ellucian, a global leader in providing innovative technology solutions for higher education institutions. This year’s edition championed the theme ‘Redefining Success in the 21st Century,’ with HBMSU emerging as the first institution to receive the prestigious distinction from Ellucian.

The award was given in recognition of HBMSU’s innovative work towards five nominations: HBMSU Messaging Gateway, Ellucian Solutions Manager, Virtual Finance, Course Files and Syllabus Management and Admissions, Advising and Registration Enhancements. HBMSU also won the “Student Experience” award under the theme innovations or improvements which assesses the progress and educational development of learners.

Dr. Al Awar expressed his gratitude and appreciation upon receiving the distinction, noting that the milestone is the fruit of HBMSU’s tireless efforts to continuously provide the highest standards of smart education by integrating the latest innovations and modern technological developments to create a more advanced educational system and to provide an integrated learning environment to learners in line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of the University. He said: “This award reflects the university's steadfast commitment to cultivate innovation in smart education in support of the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and in line with objectives of UAE Vision 2021 which aims to provide an integrated educational system in order to establish a strong national knowledge economy.”

Mathew Boice, Vice President of Ellucian, congratulated HBMSU for their win at the Ellucian Live Middle East 2015 Awards. He commended the strong relations between Ellucian and HBMSU, referring to the university as a prominent partner in light of its leading position in the smart technology – enabled education in the Arab World. He added: “We are confident that the success and significant achievements made by the university in such a short period, as well as its support for the development of our Banner® system, will further enhance learners’ experiences and provide them with an amplified learning environment based on the latest cutting-edge technology. HMBSU recently introduced the latest version of the ‘Banner® by Ellucian Student Information System’ to be integrated in the smart education infrastructure of the university. The university also announced the launch of first global Ellucian Banner training center outside the USA. The center was developed to provide universities and academic institutions in the Middle East with the best Banner® training services. The training center will enable faculty members, administrative officials and IT personnel to use the Banner® system to enhance operational performance levels.

Moreover, the center will play a crucial role in supporting the Emiratization efforts of universities and local educational institutions, as it will train UAE Nationals on Student Information System (SIS) functions by encouraging the use of the Banner® software in all administrative processes ranging from Strategic Management and Records Handling to Learners Recruitment, Admissions, Registration, and Academic Advising.

The Ellucian Live Middle East Conference is the biggest annual event of its kind, attracting more than 500 leading higher education institutions across the region. This year’s edition showcased the latest trends and developments as well as the best practices in the sector. It featured an ideal platform for the participants to interact with leaders of the education sector and Ellucian experts.
