Ajman – MENA Herald : Ajman’s health care sector is set to get a major boost after the completion of the Emirate’s pioneer physical therapy and rehabilitation facility – the only one of its kind in the UAE region.

Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center once commissioned in September will offer the much-needed rehabilitation treatment for the UAE residents as well as cater for those seeking specialized treatment from other countries as medical tourists.

The facility, which is part of the Thumbay network of academic hospitals operating under the group’s healthcare division, will also serve as a training center for the Gulf Medical University (GMU) therapy students and also for those pursuing Masters programs in Physiotherapy.

Located within the GMU campus, Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center will also host a sports medicine, hydrotherapy unit, GAIT analysis lab, and an ergonomic simulation lab that promotes analytical and therapeutic services.

Highlighting the training opportunities for students, GMU chancellor, Prof. Hossam Hamdy, said that the university is now in a much better position to prepare a highly skilled health care workforce that will meet and exceed the health care needs of the nation.

“We are delighted that our physical therapy students will now train using modern equipment and facilities thus ensuring that they acquire the necessary skills needed in their field. This is in addition to the transfer of knowledge through exposure from some of the most gifted minds and experts in the physical therapy field,” said Prof. Hossam.

He went on to add, “GMU students will also have access to a wide variety of clinical cases during the course of their studies, which would greatly enhance their skills as health care professionals, by the time they graduate. Furthermore, the center will also open up employment opportunities for our graduates.”

The 30,000 square feet facility will also provide specialized physiotherapy services in the fields of musculoskeletal, cardio-respiratory, ceurology, cediatrics and women’s health.

On his part, Akbar Mr. Modieen Thumbay vice president of healthcare Division Thumbay group and board member said, “As part of our health care strategic plan, Thumbay Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Center will strategically position GMU as an institution that produces graduates whose competence will help them to make a significant contribution to the health of the community.”

In its bid to be a leading contributor to the continuous improvement of the nation’s health care delivery system, the GMU campus is also set to host a 550-bed academic hospital and a 60-chair dental hospital in a not too distance future.
