Dubai – MENA Herald: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), opened the Summer Camp for Young Engineers, in the presence of HE Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF). The summer camp was launched as part of the Reading is Positive Energy exhibition, located near Gate 2 of Zabeel Park, and will run until 18 August 2016.
DEWA launched the Reading is Positive Energy exhibition in cooperation with MBRF. This reflects DEWA’s commitment towards supporting the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who declared 2016 as the Year of Reading. This was approved by the UAE Cabinet, under the leadership of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The opening of the summer camp witnessed the attendance of Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA; Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Communications at DEWA, and a group of DEWA’s employees.
Al Tayer and bin Huwaireb toured the camp and Reading is Positive Energy exhibition, which includes the Smart Reading Corner, Children’s Knowledge World, Reading Sensory Wall, Emirati Majlis, and a cultural café.
“The summer camp aims to instil a culture of innovation and creativity among the youth, while providing an educational platform for children to develop their skills among fields including engineering, electricity, mechanics, science and maths. The camp also features specialised training programmes allowing the children to develop their communication and team work skills, and daily activities and competition to prepare the children for their future careers, while motivating the younger generation to learn about science and technology.
“The summer camp supports the National Innovation Strategy, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, and the Dubai Innovation Strategy, launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world. DEWA’s summer camp enhances social development and instils a culture of innovation among the future generations of the UAE.
As a socially-responsible government organization, DEWA cooperates with the public and private sectors to establish a knowledge-based environment. This supports our objectives to raise a generation with a passion for culture, reading, and knowledge, across all society,” said Al Tayer.
“The Reading is Positive Energy Exhibition supports the directives of our wise leadership, to instil a culture of reading, as part of daily life in the UAE, contributing towards the development of a knowledge-based society. The Future Engineers initiative, which will be held as part of the exhibition, adheres to the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to enhance the UAE’s international position in the field of innovation, while shaping the future and developing a generation armed with knowledge and research skills in fields such as engineering, electricity, mechanics, science, and maths. This generation will be responsible for leading the UAE into the future. This will be achieved by developing their skills in innovation, creation, and leadership. We also work to broaden their understanding of science and encourage them to keep up to date with the latest technologies,” said HE Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF.
The summer camp will create a platform allowing children to better understand certain topics related to electricity and electronics, how to measure energy, and semiconductors like diodes and transistors. Children will be able to build electrical circuits in a safe way. The camp will also include activities involving building digital circuits and integrated circuits using timers. DEWA will reward all participating children with certificates of appreciation for their participation and good behaviour, in addition to a number of prizes.
