Dubai Design Week hosts the first #empty in the Middle East at Dubai Design District (d3)

Thursday 29 October 2015

Dubai – MENA Herald: On Tuesday 27th October, Dubai Design Week opened its doors outside of opening hours to a select group of regional and international Instagrammers, an event known as an #empty.
The #empty movement began in 2013 when New York's Metropolitan Museum gave Dave Krugman (@dave.krugman) and a group of local Instagrammers access to the museum after it had closed to the public.
It sees Instgrammers invited to events and buildings when they are closed to the general public, providing them with a rare opportunity to explore the beautiful, but often crowded spaces, after hours.
In the United Kingdom, visitors were recently welcomed into the Frieze London event (#emptyFrieze), as well as the Guggenheim in New York (#emptyGuggenheim). Dubai Design Week is proud to be the initiator of the movement's arrival in the Middle East. By reaching out to and supporting the thriving creative community here in the United Arab Emirates, Dubai Design Week is nurturing another set of designers and artists.
