Game Evolution Supports eSports in the Region

Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai has hosted the activities of one of the leading eSports event in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region; Game Evolution, that is running on the 6th and 7th of November, 2015 in Hall 8 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event aims to promote eSports as a professional spectator sport in the region and to bring the attention of communities from around the world to the Middle East.

Game Evolution showcased the latest game technologies and video games tournaments pitting local and international gamers against each other in a healthy environment. The event has also attracted amateur and professional video gamers who came from different parts of the world to showcase their skills and abilities in video games in a spirit of competition amongst young people of different age groups. The organisers of the event are very positive that the eSports industry will witness a great success in the region bringing forward great profits in the coming years as the global statistics so indicate.

According to SuperData Research, the eSports market is worth $748 million in 2015, and it’s expected to grow 150% by 2018. Combined global eSports prizes is estimated at $1.6 billion, while by 2018, SuperData expects the eSports market to be valued at $1.9 billion.

On the sidelines of Game Evolution, Eng. Anas Al Madani, Vice - Chairman and Group CEO of INDEX Holding said: “Our main goal behind this event is to support the video gaming community in the UAE and the region, and to further develop the eSports initiative that we have started 8 years ago. Through Game Evolution, we are promoting eSports for the youth and we are providing gamers with an ultimate platform for competitive gaming. We have seen a great number of participants and visitors on the 1st day, and we are expecting it to reach 10,000 visitors and participants by the end of event.”

It is worth mentioning that professional gaming teams competed in two major and widespread PC games within the community: Dota 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Individual players will have the chance to compete in the four different console games like FIFA 15, Mortal Kombat: X, Ultra Street Fighter IV, and Super Smash Bros.

Finalists from qualifying rounds that were held in June and September are competing for the grand prize in their respective tournament. The international representation was so evident, with players coming from various parts of the world ranging from India, Pakistan, Lebanon, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Europe.  

The event witnessed the participation of 8 teams competing against each other in Dota 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive, with each team consisting of 5 players. They were able to battle over the course of two days to give rise to one winner who will go back home with a trophy and a cash prize to remember. The organizers announced that the gross amount of cash and prizes would reach 150,000 AED.
