Dubai - MENA Herald: The 19th edition of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), has put the spotlight on the thriving gold and jewellery sector in Dubai, with gold retailers reporting strong sales and visitors lauding the summer extravaganza for creating memorable moments.
Dubai, known as the ‘City of Gold’ is a premier gold shopping destination that prides itself on the authenticity and quality of its products. Indeed, the world’s favourite yellow metal glitters more in Dubai than anywhere else in the region, with the presence of many home-grown and global jewellery brands highlighting the emirate’s growing popularity as an international gold hub.
During DSS 2016, the Gold Souk, a tourist attraction, is glistening even more with special offers and discounts aimed at offering a rewarding experience for shoppers, both residents and tourists, who buy gold for personal adornment and as presents for special occasions.
Devang Soni, owner of Marhaba Jewellery store, located in Gold Souk, said: “Despite the hot summer months, the Gold Souk sees high footfall and sales as tourists tend to buy gold during their visit to Dubai as the quality of gold that is sold here is considered one of the best in the world”.
“Special promotions and discounts attract shoppers to gold stores and the influx of tourists combined with high interest from residents contribute to increasing sales during Dubai Summer Surprises,” he added.
Chiraj Shalan, from the sales team at Al Anwaar Jewellers, The Dubai Mall, said the store has been receiving an increasing number of shoppers, who were attracted by the store’s new summer collection.
“In summer, especially during DSS, we offer exclusive promotions that cover a wide range of gold jewellery, including bridal jewellery, rings, necklaces, bracelets, and watches that come in different colors and designs,” he said.
Liali Jewellery at The Dubai Mall is showcasing an exclusive collection including high-end Italian rose gold rings and earrings for different age groups. The contemporary and gorgeous Tessitore collection attracts the younger generation and includes bangles, rings, necklaces and earrings. During DSS 2016, the Liali Jewellery store has been visited by tourists from around the world, especially from GCC countries.

Statistics published in May by Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group (DGJG) show that 45 tonnes of jewellery were manufactured locally last year, a 20 percent increase compared with 2014.
DSS, which is organised by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism)), runs until 20 August under the theme“ Own The Summer” offering great events, rewarding deals and family fun.
