The Pace Has Been Set For The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay

Sunday 31 January 2016

Dubai - MENA Herald: Over 50 of Dubai’s most influential businesses are set to battle it out as they take part in the inaugural Bloomberg Square Mile Relay on Wednesday 3 February at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). Emirates NBD, HSBC, J.P. Morgan, Dubai Airports, and Standard Chartered are just a few of the prominent companies that have already signed up to the race. Places are limited so corporates are being encouraged to register now in order to challenge for the title of ‘fastest firm in the city’.
The unique one mile (1.6km) running route has just been formally announced with teams of 10 runners from companies across the city expected to take on the twists and turns of the exciting course, as it sweeps through the heart of the DIFC, in a bid to be crowned winners of the first Bloomberg Square Mile Relay race in Dubai. During the awards ceremony, not only will the fastest team be awarded with the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Dubai race trophy, they will also receive a cheque for AED30,000 to donate to charity.
All runners and ticket holders will enjoy complimentary hospitality in the Race Village provided by Official Catering Partner The Ritz-Carlton, DIFC, but everyone is welcome to join in the fun – colleagues, friends and family can all soak up the atmosphere with food, drinks and entertainment throughout the evening by purchasing hospitality online before 1st February. After the post-race awards ceremony, guests will also be able to access the exclusive Official After-Party in the Olive Garden at The Ritz-Carlton, DIFC.
Nick Keller, MD of the event organiser Square Mile Sport, said: “Preparations for the first Bloomberg Square Mile Relay in Dubai are coming together and it’s great to see so many companies interested in taking part in this unique relay event. We are inviting all runners and their colleagues, friends and families to join us at the post-event gathering which will have first class hospitality available for all ticket holders to enjoy”.
Raja Al Mazrouei, Senior Vice President – Marketing & Corporate Communications at DIFC Authority, commented: “Interest in the first ever Bloomberg Square Mile Relay has been very positive and there has been a definite buzz around the DIFC about next week’s event. We are delighted to be the official venue partner for the relay and we look forward to seeing the business and financial community come together for the occasion.”
Emirates Red Crescent has been confirmed as the Official Charity Partner of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Dubai 2016. Through their partnership with the race in Dubai, Red Crescent will be able to enhance their existing services in the humanitarian field through its programs and activities that support disadvantaged children and families.
The annual sporting event has already had huge success since its launch in the City of London in 2007, expanding in recent years to Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai, with more than 100 teams entering the relay race at each location every year. Dubai marks the first leg of the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay 2016 series that will also include inaugural races in Sydney and New York, with further races expected to be announced for 2017.
