Abu Dhabi - MENA Herald: The UAE has become a global model in the fight against human trafficking with its support for international efforts and cooperation in the efforts to eradicate this menace, stated His Excellency Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of State for Federal National Council, and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.
Addressing the 37th meeting of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, HE Dr. Gargash said the UAE has launched leading initiatives to rehabilitate victims of human trafficking and strengthen legislation to contain trafficking activities based on its commitment to ensure the safety and quality of life of every human being.
On the occasion, HE Dr. Gargash and members of the Committee commended the efforts of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, for her contributions in the field of charitable and humanitarian work. The Committee pointed out that HH Sheikha Fatima has adopted distinguished initiatives to serve the weaker segments of the society, and support activities on humanitarian issues in various parts of the world.
HE Dr. Gargash and members of the Committee also praised Her Highness for supporting the Ewa'a Shelters for Women and Children, which provides protection for victims of human trafficking, as well as other such centres which have contributed to highlight the key role of the UAE in this area.
“The humanitarian initiatives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak have helped change the lives of people at the local, regional and international levels and represent the values of compassion and tolerance reflected in our religion and instilled in our culture by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan,” said HE Dr. Gargash.
During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Dubai, the Committee discussed the notes received from the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children and Ewa'a Shelters for Women and Children on the implementation of a mechanism to identify potential victims of trafficking in coordination with the Committee.
The Committee also reviewed an action plan to determine the decision-making authority and alternative homes in case the victim is a minor and has been trafficked by a family member. It also discussed developments related to the diploma course in human trafficking offered in cooperation with Dubai Police and the Dubai Judicial Institute.
