Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation launches second session of children’s writing workshop

Dubai - MENA Herald: Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF), a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, has launched the second session of its workshop on children’s writing with the participation of 19 Emirati talents. The session led by Tunisian writer Wafa Mezghani, is being held from March 6 to 10, 2016.
Mezghani explained that the second session of the workshop on children’s writing is a continuation of the first session, which was presented by the author earlier this year. It will focus on a review of the previous points discussed by the first session of the workshop, and also address the mechanism of writing fiction, and science fiction for adolescents. Mezghani also pointed out that the session will discuss the importance of graphics in children's books from the viewpoint of the writer and the reader, in terms of colours, shapes and graphics.

His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, said the workshop on children’s writing comes as part of the Foundation’s strategy to prepare new generations of creative Emirati youth, and enhance the culture of knowledge and reading in the UAE society in line with the directive of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to mark 2016 as the Year of Reading.

He noted that the workshop will inspire outstanding literary works by young talents, addressed at the children’s category of readers in the UAE and the Arab community. Considering that children are fundamental to the building of societies, there is an urgent need to create literary works that reflect their aspirations and match their thinking process, HE Bin Huwaireb said.

HE Bin Huwaireb stated that the workshop led by Wafa Mezghani will help transfer her experience to the talents participating in the second session of the workshop on children’s writing. The workshop will review the works of the participants related to early childhood, and mid-childhood, later childhood, and provide a comprehensive assessment of the progress of work.

MBRF recently launched the second phase of the writing category within the Dubai International Program for Writing, which included the first session of the writing workshop for children to be conducted over six months.

The Dubai International Program for Writing, one of the most important initiatives launched by MBRF in the field of knowledge production, seeks to encourage young talents in the field of writing and support them through workshops and training courses. The workshops are aimed at enabling local talents to gain global professional expertise, and raise their level of intellectual and literary capabilities to contribute to the enrichment of the cultural movement in the country and the region.
