Dubai - MENA Herald: Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), the flagship free zone business of Dubai and the trade and logistics hub for the wider Middle East region, is adopting the Car-Free Day dedicated to the Jafza Community on February 24, 2016.
This is in line with the Car-Free Day initiated by the Dubai Municipality, to create awareness on fuel conservation and using public transport to reduce carbon footprint.
Jafza is supported by 100 companies and government entities based in the free zone with the aim to highlight the critical concern of global warming. Jafza, along with various knowledge-based activities, is also organising green exhibition where Jafza customers who have been the torchbearers of sustainability will showcase their initiatives and products.
Ibrahim Mohamed Aljanahi, Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer, said “Jafza has always championed the cause of sustainable living and the Car-Free Day is one of the many programmes that we have always supported. We have always been engaged in environmental related issues and this day is an extension of our commitment to the society. We are a community in itself with a sizeable workforce and over 7000 companies in the zone. Our joint efforts on this day, even with a slight reduction in carbon footprint, will be a start to our efforts in creating a green environment for our children.”
He added, “This initiative should aptly sum up the positive results that our collective efforts could bring about; firstly by cutting down on fuel consumption and second reducing pollution significantly. We should all try our best to make car-free day a part of our routine. This would also include car-pooling and using public transport to the maximum.”
Jafza has recently embarked on the largest project in the Middle East with DEWA’s Etihad ESCO to retrofit its existing buildings and facilities to make them more energy efficient; thus saving the free zone authority energy worth AED132 million. The project is considered to be a major step forward in making Expo2020 in Dubai a grand success since sustainability is one of the key components of the upcoming global event.”
