Dubai – MENA Herald: The Department of Economic Development (DED) honoured 36 of its employees as well as nine external customers for their innovative ideas and suggestions made through the eSuggest scheme during 2015 and the first half of 2016. The ceremony is part of recognising creative thinkers who contribute to developing DED’s performance and the quality of services being provided to the business community.
Employees from the various business units and agencies of DED had submitted their suggestions for improving the work environment and service quality. A team of DED officials selected the most outstanding suggestions that can be applied and the honouring ceremony was led by Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General of DED, along with the Suggestions and Creative Ideas team in DED and a number of other senior officials.
“We are pleased to see that many of our employees and customers came forward with their suggestions and ideas in DED’s eSuggest scheme. I thank them for their interest in improving the services provided by the Government of Dubai. We will continue to invite relevant feedback on our services, recognise creative inputs and work towards ensuring more value-added services to our customers and happiness to our employees,” said Ibrahim.
Ibrahim added: “In the past, DED’s Suggestions and Creative Ideas team had conducted specialised workshops for 150 of our employees to encourage creative thinking and innovation, in collaboration with reputed thought leaders and management experts. The workshops covered important topics such as critical thinking and creativity, mind mapping, change management and change leadership. The enthusiastic response from our employees in the eSuggest scheme indicates the positive outcomes from the workshops.”
Dubai Exports, the export promotion agency of DED, as well as the Business Registration & Licensing (BRL), Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection, and Internal Audit sectors in DED were honoured for their support for innovation and implementing creative suggestions at the ceremony.
Ibrahim urged directors of the various business units and agencies in DED to work hand-in-hand with their staff and encourage them to share their innovative ideas and suggestions on improving performance and developing skills, across direct meetings and brainstorming sessions.
DED is part of various regional and global platforms for idea exchange including ideasUK, Ideas America, Ideas Arabia and UAE Ideas.
The Suggestions & Creative Ideas team in DED has organised local and international field trips during the past three years in order to exchange knowledge and experiences in the field of innovation, including a visit to the HSBC bank in in London as well as the MasterCard innovation incubators in Dublin – Ireland and in Dubai.
