Dubai- MENA Herald : The Department of Economic Development (DED) along with its agencies will participate in the ‘GITEX Technology Week’ being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, 16-20 October 2016, showcasing the latest technology developments and smart services from DED, including the ‘Business Engine’ initiative.
The first government-level initiative of its kind in the UAE, Business Engine is a specialised audit system for business registration and licensing procedures, aimed to ensure impartiality and eliminate technical as well as human errors in transactions.
Omar Bushahab, CEO of Business Licensing & Registration (BRL) sector in DED, commented: “The Business Engine is a strategic initiative from our IT team intended to ensure the highest standards of accuracy and impartiality in business registration and licensing transactions. The first phase of the project is complete and it integrates internal and external work processes for the Business Registration & Licensing sector. The system has been developed based on the growing needs of the increasing number of outsourced service centres of DED.
“The Business Engine project will ensure that source of any likely error can be detected well in advance and corrective action taken before any damage is done. The system can interact remotely with system administrators and managers of outsourced centres. The objective of the project is to expedite auditing and avoid delays for customers,” added Bushahab.
The Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector in DED will bring to GITEX its ‘IP Gateway,’ an electronic platform to improve intellectual property (IP) protection. Mohamed Ali Rashid Lootah, CEO of CCCP said the IP Gateway was launched in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to reduce government auditors in Dubai by 80% by the year 2018. The smart system can completely eliminate the need for review visits from law firms and brand owners as trademark owners can report infringements and get updates on action taken, electronically.
The IP gateway seeks to protect the rights of trademark owners and enable businesses to grow sustainably as part of achieving Dubai’s overall economic development strategy and reinforcing trust between the public and private sectors. The initiative also reflects DED’s increasing compliance with the directives of the Dubai Government to replace all manual procedures with smart systems to enhance economic competitiveness and sustainable development.
“The IP Gateway provides added value to all stakeholders, including trademark owners, law firms, distributors and dealers. A complainant can file complaint and get the case file opened electronically on www.dubaided.gov.ae within 10 minutes from anywhere in the world. The applicant can similarly see details such as the action taken and confiscated goods, without having to visit our offices or submitting applications manually,” Lootah explained.
Abdullah Hassan, CEO of Shared Services in DED, said: “We see the GITEX Technology Week as a medium to update the public on the most significant developments relating to the ‘Business in Dubai’ App. The bilingual App provides access to a number of business licensing and registration procedures on smart devices. “Customers can use the App to reserve trade names, get initial approvals, renew licenses, payment of fees and fines, and to know about the status of companies.”
Hanadi Mohammed Eid, Director of the Information Technology Department in DED, added: “Our participation in the GITEX Technology Week is an opportunity to display the level of integration of smart technologies in the services provided by the Department of Economic Development. It’s also an opportunity for us to meet leading technology solutions providers in the Middle East. We will have daily raffles on all days on the exhibition and winners will receive attractive prizes.”
A dedicated team from CCCP will be present in the exhibition, sharing knowledge on combatting counterfeiting and the mechanisms available to safeguard intellectual property.
