Dubai - MENA Herald: DEWA has achieved considerable savings on its training budgets, by providing internal training courses after receiving the 5th edition of the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. This became possible after a team of DEWA professionals successfully passed the PMI (Project Management Institute) standards. In 2012, DEWA was the first government organisation in Dubai and the UAE to become a registered educational provider, delivering activities and accredited courses by the American Project Institute (PMI). Through this, DEWA has managed to save AED 1,521,140. DEWA has currently trained 244 employees, as part of its efforts to enhance the capabilities of its staff members, allowing DEWA to enhance leadership and professionalism across a number of operations and development plans. The courses included Project Management Fundamentals, as per PMI Standards, which saved a total of AED 350,930, and was attended by 61 employees. The Project Management Professional course, saved a total of AED 797,300 and was attended by 118 employees.
“We are proud of the savings made on training budgets, by providing training courses internally, with less dependency on external training providers. This reflects our commitment towards improving our operations, enhancing innovation and creativity, adopting the best practical solutions to benefit employees, and the Dubai Government, and training employees based on the highest international standards.
In adherence with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and as part of efforts to achieve the National Innovation Strategy, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world, DEWA is committed to supporting talented employees, while providing them with the tools required to achieve DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. We consider our employees the most important pillar of our success. We take priority in involving staff in all initiatives and projects,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“We are also committed to developing our workforce. The training consists of 97 hours for senior managers, and 51.37 hours for employees in mid-level management positions. DEWA recently published its Training Courses Guide 2016 for all its employees. The guide features information on training courses and programmes, and includes over 1,095 training programmes. DEWA aims to train 10,000 employees during 2016, with a total budget of AED 31 million,” added Al Tayer.
DEWA has achieved outstanding results among several academic programmes. In collaboration with the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the scholarship programme annually offers 20 students a Bachelor’s degree in electrical and mechanical engineering. The Intilaq Programme offers 60 students a Bachelor’s degree in either mechanical or electrical engineering, within various government and private universities annually, 30 being high-school graduates, and 30 in their final year of study. As part of its commitment to identify the future needs of the renewable energy and sustainability sectors, DEWA recently launched its Renewable Sustainable Energy Programme for high school graduates, with 20 students to study at the University of Sharjah (UoS), and 10 students will study abroad.
