DEWA adopts 94 of 671 innovative ideas and development comments received from Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis

Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received 614 innovative ideas and 57 development comments from the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis, which was launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The Majlis enables Dubai’s residents and supporters around the world to submit innovative ideas and development comments to make Dubai the smartest and fastest-developing city in the world.
A high-level committee, headed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, reviewed the ideas and comments received from the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis. These ideas are either implemented, transferred to relevant organisations, or referred to internal departments for further study. DEWA regularly honours those the originators of innovative ideas or development comments. These fall into three categories: electricity, water, and renewable energy. DEWA received 388 innovative ideas and 32 development comments for electricity, 124 innovative ideas and 20 development comments for water, and 102 innovative ideas and 5 development comments for renewable energy. So far, DEWA has adopted 77 innovative ideas and 17 development comments.
“DEWA is committed to enhancing Dubai’s global position in innovation, and encouraging the public, including its citizens, residents, and visitors, to come up with new innovative ideas to improve performance and achieve the best results. This in turn, will contribute to enhancing the quality of life, and the well-being of everyone. DEWA studies the innovative ideas and development comments received from the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis, which is an innovative platform that enables direct interaction and helps government organisations to receive innovative ideas and development comments that benefit generations to come,” said Al Tayer.
Ideas received from the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis included an idea to encourage the use of electric vehicles by introducing technologies to make it easier to recharge them. This includes charging pads fixed under the roads or parking areas to wirelessly-charge electric vehicles even while moving. Other ideas included innovative technology to generate water from collecting fog, installing auto-shutdown systems, which DEWA has already implemented, and installing smart meters inside houses to enable customers to keep track of their use, which is already part of DEWA’s Smart Grid initiative. Ideas also included establishing an academy for renewable energy sciences. This will be introduced by end of 2017 at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park’s Innovation Centre. Ideas also included launching an award for solar energy users in houses, buildings, and companies to encourage a reduced dependence on the government electricity network, and generating solar energy by using a special material sprayed on glass windows.
Other ideas from the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis included allocating a day each month in which all organisations, offices, and government departments reduce their electricity use by 50%, and sending an SMS to customers with their consumption details and bill information, to reduce the amount of paper used. DEWA noted that its Green Bill is already in place and that paper bills are no longer being sent to customers. Ideas also included using pre-paid cards to charge meters, providing free parking for distinguished employees for a month, and transmitting electricity using Wi-Fi.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is a smart initiative for Dubai. It allows all society to interact and participate by submitting ideas and comments and answering questions raised by His Highness, as if they were sitting in his traditional majlis.
