DEWA re-certified for IMS

Dubai – MENA Herald: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been re-certified in Integrated Management Systems by Bureau Veritas, a global leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC). The re-certification was issued after being audited by Bureau Veritas. The move reflects DEWA’s ongoing commitment to integrate efficient administrative systems, to the benefit of clients, partners, and employees.

The renewal of Quality, Environmental, and Occupational Health & Safety, Management Systems demonstrates DEWA’s adherence to the highest of international standards. DEWA has renewed the Quality Management Systems ISO 9001:2008, accredited by ANAB, this reflects DEWA’s intensive efforts to improve the quality of their management system, and enhance customer satisfaction by meeting customer requirements. DEWA has also renewed the Environmental Management Systems ISO 14001:2004, accredited by ANAB.

This reflects DEWA’s support of environmental protection and prevention of pollution along with other socio-economic needs in the fight against climate change. In addition, the Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems OHSAS 18001:2007 Certificate has been renewed as well, reflecting DEWA’s efforts to enhance performance in occupational health and safety (OH&S), by assessing and controlling certain risks in regard to occupational health and safety. DEWA aims to promote a high standard of occupational health and safety, which meets Dubai’s socio-economic needs.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, views this as DEWA effectively using Quality, Environmental, and Occupational Health and Safety, Management Systems in all operations, as well as DEWA’s continuous improvement while working based on these systems as major drivers for creation and innovation.

While working towards achieving these high standards throughout its different operations, DEWA has seen positive results, leading to an increase of energy efficiency. Between 2006 and 2014, DEWA managed to achieve a 28.36% improvement in efficiency, DEWA has achieved highly competitive results that surpass those of leading European and American utility companies in terms of efficiency and reliability by reduction of losses in the electricity transmission and distribution networks to just 3.26%, compared to 6-7% in Europe and the US. Network line losses in the water sector decreased to 9% compared to 15% in North America, setting another international benchmark, and highlighting our commitment to meet the growth in demand for water and promoting sustainability. DEWA’s achievements contributed to the UAE ranking fourth worldwide and first in the Middle East and North Africa in 2014 and 2015 in ease of access to electricity according to the Doing Business Report issued by the World Bank.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has won two awards at the IdeasUK’s 29th International Conference 2015 in the Process Improvement category, and in Health and Safety category. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority also has been awarded both the Sword of Honour for health and safety, and the Globe of Honour for environment from the British Safety Council. This year, DEWA is one of seven organisations worldwide to receive the Globe of Honour, which DEWA has achieved for the 4th consecutive year, and one of 50 organisations worldwide awarded with the Sword of Honour, which DEWA has achieved for the 8th consecutive year. The awards are an international recognition of the successful approach and environmental strategies and policies adopted by DEWA.
