Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis, the integrated free zone technology park, in collaboration with NXN (formerly neXgen), the leading smart city consulting and digital service provider, have received the prestigious ‘Best Infrastructure Innovation Award’ for its Silicon Park project at the annual Global Telecoms Business (GTB) Innovation Awards ceremony held in London.

Recognizing the industry’s most significant project partnerships and showcasing the very best projects in telecommunications, the award celebrates DSOA’s collaboration with smart city advisory and managed services provider NXN in establishing Dubai’s first integrated smart city project at the high-tech park.

The award was received based on several criteria including the overall Smart District ICT concept design, technology blueprint and service delivery framework for the Silicon Park project in Dubai Silicon Oasis. The project defines Smart District Services and value propositions, as well as develops detailed technical designs and specifications that make it future proof, readily able to take on more smart services as they became available or relevant in the future.

Currently under construction at an estimated total cost of AED1.3 billion (US$356 million) spanning an area of 150,000 square meters, Silicon Park will comprise 71,000 square meters of office space, 25,000 square meters of commercial space, 46,000 square meters of residential area as well as 112-key business hotel and 59-room furnished apartment Radisson RED Dubai Silicon Oasis. In addition, it will feature value-added contemporary lifestyle facilities, such as restaurants, cafés, prayer rooms, a shopping center and an underground parking space that can accommodate more than 2,500 cars.

Eng. Muammar Al Katheeri, Executive Vice President Engineering and Smart City at DSOA, said: “The award endorses our determination and efforts to transform Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world as envisioned by our leader His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We are committed to continuing our focus on smart services, and including them in our infrastructure planning and development. Partnering with leading smart city experts such as NXN will lead to a more thorough and rounded approach to smart integration, and eventually improve the experience of all our business partners, residents, and visitors within our developments.”

Ghazi Atallah, CEO of NXN, said: “We are honored to have been selected for this award. I take this opportunity to thank Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority for partnering with us in developing a global benchmark for smart communities. Together we will reimagine the future of smart cities as we work towards common goals and write a new chapter in Dubai’s smart city development.”

Completely free of regular vehicles, Silicon Park will use electricity-powered alternatives as the primary mode of transportation. All residents and visitors owning electric vehicles will be able to access the charging stations set up across the premises. In addition, they will have the option to use smart rechargeable electric bikes as a means of conveyance.

The project reflects Dubai’s ambition to offer harmonious living for individuals through endorsing smart criteria across services and facilities that are built around the six pillars mandated by Dubai Government for smart cities - life, society, mobility, economy, governance and environment.
