du raises awareness on safety in the UAE community

Dubai - MENA Herald: du has demonstrated its commitment to health and safety by raising awareness about good HSE practices within the UAE community. The organisation reached out to a number schools in Dubai to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, which took place on April 28, 2017.

du’s HSE department and its team of voluntary emergency coordinators worked together to raise awareness about good HSE practices, by conducting interactive educational sessions for close to 900 students. Furthermore, du provided students and teachers educational giveaways with useful HSE-related information.

“The safety of workplaces, schools and homes is very important, and we are committed to educating and empowering individuals to carry out good HSE practices in the UAE. That is why we believe that it is important for children of a young age to practice good health and safety. We are a business committed to its people, and we continue to ensure the health and safety of our employees and society within our working environments,” said Abdulhadi Alalyak Senior Vice President - Corporate Services, Human Capital & Administration.

“In line with our HSE policies we annually conduct health and safety initiatives within our organization to improve the safety behavior and culture of our people, including driving safety, ergonomics and stress management. Furthermore, at du we believe in ‘be prepared and be safe’; we have 150 emergency coordinators that ensure the safety of our staff and visitors, and we conduct regular emergency evacuation drills.”

du is committed to educating individuals on the importance of HSE practices, which it believes consists of environments that foster productivity, efficiency, happiness and wellbeing within community environments. du supports the Sustainable Development Goal 8, which promotes “inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”. Furthermore, it focuses on the “protection of labour rights and promotion of safe and secure working environments for all workers, including migrant workers, in particular, women migrants, and those in precarious employment.”
