Abu Dhabi - MENA Herald: Emirates Motor Company (EMC), the authorized distributor of Mercedes-Benz in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the flagship company of Al Fahim Group, has offered visitors a glimpse of the first Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrid model in the region - the ‘S 500 e’ – as part of its participation at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) currently underway at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Considered the world's first luxury saloon to consume less than 3.0 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.
The ‘S 500e’ is part of Mercedes-Benz’s efforts to build electric cars and plug-in hybrids that offer several environmental benefits.
Blending an ultramodern hybrid drive configuration with the unique innovations and the luxurious fit-out of the S-Class, the new Mercedes-Benz ‘S 500 e’ combines efficient performance comparable to that of a V8 with the fuel consumption of a compact model. The car can cover up to 33 kilometers on electric power alone with 0% emission, making it the perfect travel companion to navigate the busy city roads.
Nassim Mourani, General Manager at EMC Passenger Cars, said: “Emirates Motor Company is delighted to offer visitors to ADSW a sneak-peek of the unique in-built features of our most exclusive Mercedes-Benz ‘S 500e’. Our participation at ADSW articulates EMC’s continued commitment towards the society by promoting sustainable energy and offering innovative solutions that will ensure a better future for all. In showcasing this plug-in and hybrid model, we seek to support the UAE’s vision to cut down the carbon footprint and save energy by promoting hybrid and fuel efficient cars.”
Looking to generate awareness on this elite and fuel-efficient beast, EMC lent the vehicle to two driving experts who gave genuine opinions of the car. Emirati speaker at the World Energy Summit, Omar Al Bussaidy, was impressed by the powerful performance of the 8-cylinder engine which offered an outstanding V8-like driving experience with the fuel efficiency of a 4-cylinder car when he drove on hybrid from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain. The car raced from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds.
Lauren Lien, an expatriate media personality passionate about preserving the environment, took the ‘S500e’ for a spin around the city and admired the emission-free driving experience where just 3 liters/100 kilometers of fuel was consumed – equivalent of 65g of CO₂/km emissions. It also sports innovative features that are unique to vehicles in its class such as the intelligent driving strategy or radar-based regenerative braking.
During the reveal in ADSW, Mourani emphasized, “Mercedes-Benz has always been at the forefront of technological advancements, and the ‘S 500e’ sets new standards for fuel efficiency, emission-free mobility and climate comfort without compromising the comfort of Mercedes Benz’s renowned luxury and safety standards.”
