Global Women in PR announce the launch of a new chapter in the Middle East on International Women’s day

Dubai – MENA Herald: Global Women in PR is delighted to announce that on International Women’s Day (March 8th) a new chapter is being launched for senior women working in the PR industry in the Middle East.
Details of this exciting new group, WPR Middle East, will be unveiled at a joint event with PRCA MENA to mark the launch of these important new organisations serving the PR industry in the Middle East and North Africa. Leading figures from the PR industry will join with key business heads from the region. The evening is being sponsored by leading recruitment and search consultants Hanson Search.
Commenting on the launch Felice Hurst, from Hanson Search, who is heading up WPR Middle East, said “the launch is very timely for the region as the representation of women in society, the economy and the workforce continues to be a hot topic. Last year UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, his Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the formation of a ‘Gender Balance Council’ which aims to enhance women’s roles in building the future of the nation.
“There are many issues that have come to light regarding women in the PR industry in recent years, the most startling being the under representation of women in leadership roles, despite the fact that 67% of the industry is composed of females. By launching WPR MENA, I believe we will be better able to address the challenges facing women in the industry in the Middle East, as well as better supporting our clients and industry partners by providing access to these professional bodies. In addition to highlighting the gender imbalance at the top of the PR world, our aim is to also help mentor the next generation of female PR practitioners as they progress through their careers.”
Sue Hardwick and Angela Oakes, co-founders of GWPR, the international umbrella organisation that links independent networking groups of PR women together worldwide, said “we are delighted to welcome WPR Middle East to the growing number of independent WPR groups operating under the GWPR banner. Our objective is to facilitate these groups to come together to share ideas, contacts and experiences and to campaign on the major issues directly affecting women working in the PR industry today.”
GWPR is a sector group of ICCO, recent winners of the award for ‘Overall Best International Association’ at the Association Excellence Awards.
