IECM 2016 Starts This Monday

Dubai - MENA Herald: Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, the 11th edition of the International Emergency & Catastrophe Management Conference & Exhibition (IECM 2016) along with the 1st edition of Dubai International Ambulance Conference (DIAC) will begin this Monday 21st of March, 2016 at the Dubai International Convention Center.

The International Emergency & Catastrophe Management Conference & Exhibition contributes towards the capacity building of the responders during an emergency. The exhibition showcases the latest innovations in the field of emergency medical services & equipment, ambulance services, emergency service vehicles, emergency medicines, and search & rescue equipment. The exhibition this year covers an area of 4,500 square meters with a 20% increased percentage of exhibition size compared to the previous year.

On the other side, the conference focuses on pressing issues that are faced during emergencies through new practices, methodologies, and case studies discussed by experts from the field. The conference agenda this year include 30 sessions that will cover topics like Advances in Stroke Management, Updates in Trauma, Updates in Toxicology, The Role of Emergency Medicine in Global Health, 10 Essentials in Emergency medicine and many more.

Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, the Executive Chairman of the IECM Conference and Exhibition said: “There is no doubt that the two events running parallel will definitely serve the emergency sector, catastrophe management and ambulance services not only on a regional level but also on the international one.”

Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani stressed on the importance of the participation of all those who are involved in the disaster and emergency management sector, to get updated about the latest technologies, to enhance their knowledge and professional expertise, and to develop their skills.

DIAC Under the Theme “You are in Safe Hands”

Dr. Sami Mana Ahmad, Head of Medical Accreditation and Studies Section Department of Medical & Technical Affairs, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services said: “The 1st edition of Dubai International Ambulance Conference will be held under the theme “You are in Safe Hands” which is what we work on in the corporation, and it is based on the directives of our leaders to make people happy and work on their safety and comfort.

Dr. Sami Mana Ahmad explained that the conference will focus on issues faced during emergencies through new practices, methodologies, and case studies discussed by experts from the field. The purpose of the Dubai International Ambulance Conference is to enable the sharing of best practices in the field, and to discuss the latest advancements in EMS, ambulance care and pre-hospital emergency care, ambulance practice models, research and innovation in EMS, EMS System in GCC, mass casualty incident and interagency collaboration, research concept in EMS, and many more topics.

Dr. Sami Mana confirmed that the conference will cover many important aspects in the areas of emergency medicine and ambulance services. The conference will also raise the experiences of countries that have faced disasters and catastrophes like earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes and discuss ways for disaster management to increase efficiency and learn from the experiences of others.

From his side, Dr. Omar Al Sakaf, Director of Medical & Technical Affairs, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, will be discussing Managing The New Years in Dubai and the efforts made by the paramedics, police, and civil defense to evacuate the hotel and the area around Burj Khalifa, and let it pass with no casualties.

On another note, Prof Marcus Ong, Senior Consultant, Department of Emergency Medicine, Singapore General Hospital, will be presenting a session about Development of EMS in Singapore and the development of recording patients’ medical history in the hospitals of many developing societies for the sake of close monitoring and full registration for the stages of the disease, and also to present the experience of PATOS.

From his side Dr. Yadgir Tanveer, Medical Researcher at Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services will share a research paper entitled (Advanced paramedic) talking about the initiative (in Dubai We Learn). This initiative aims to train paramedics to enhance their performance to reach an international level in the field of emergency medicine and to provide internationally recognized training programs that promote career and self-development.

From his side the researcher Subroto Das, CEO, Lifeline Foundation will present a paper about Bhuj Earthquake experience and how it changed Mass Casualty Management in India. The Bhuj earthquake was of 7.9 magnitude on Richter scale, on 26th January 2001. It is one of the worst to have occurred in India in the last 180 years for which seismological records are available. This talk will focus on issues faced in Medical Relief, this includes lack of field triage that, in turn, hampered treatment, transportation and overloaded EMS.

Prof Hideharu Tanaka,Professor and Director of EMS system will be presenting about Fukushima Nuclear Explosion that evolved after the big earthquake in Japan March 11, 2011 within the Fukushima 1 nuclear reactor. It resulted in an increase in radioactivity. The researcher offers his country's experience in saving lecturers with toxins and the evacuation of affected residents and the transfer of those in affected areas.

The International Emergency & Catastrophe Management Conference & Exhibition and Dubai International Ambulance Conference will continue until 23rd of March 2016, and both events are organized by INDEX Conferences & Exhibitions, member of INDEX Holding.
