Dubai – MENA Herald: Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, Chairman of the Al Habtoor Group, received Former South African President Thabo Mbeki at the Al Habtoor Group office on Al Wasl Road on Sunday, February 28, 2016.
His Excellency President Mbeki is best known as the two-term president of South Africa after Nelson Mandela, serving as the country’s second leader from 1999 to 2008.
This is the first meeting between Al Habtoor and President Mbeki who is in Dubai to raise awareness about the work of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation in Africa.
The two gentlemen discussed the economic situation of South Africa and the opportunities that the United Arab Emirates offers.
Al Habtoor said: “South Africa is a beautiful country, rich in natural resources. Marketing is key to promote what it has to offer and to attract investors and tourists alike.” He also stressed the importance of implementing transparent rules and regulations for investment and creating a welcoming environment for the investor.
President Mbeki discussed with Al Habtoor his efforts to encourage leadership programmes in South Africa to prepare the new leaders of the country. The Thabo Mbeki Foundation, established in 2008, is dedicated to South Africa’s renaissance, upholding human rights, women’s equality, and the prosperity of South Africa.
His Excellency was accompanied by Max Boqwana, Chief Executive Officer and Mukoni Ratshitanga, Director – Communications of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation. Also present at the meeting were Mohammed Al Habtoor, Vice-Chairman & CEO, Al Habtoor Group, Sunderesh Iyer, Chief Operating Officer, Al Habtoor Investment Ziad Ida, Director, Community Relations & Safety, and Abdul Salam Al Marzooqi, General Manager of the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Foundation.
The Chairman gave His Excellency a signed copy of his best-selling autobiography ‘Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor – The Autobiography’.
Al Habtoor was also presented with a copy of President Mbeki’s book, ‘Thabo Mbeki: Reflections on African Challenges and Prospects’.
