Abu Dhabi – MENA Herald: Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), the entity responsible for developing quality infrastructure and raising awareness on quality standards in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, has announced the formation of a committee to evaluate and study the impact of standards projects as part of QCC’s efforts to support all standard requirements of the emirate.
The committee comprises members of all relevant authorities in the emirate of Abu Dhabi including Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, Department of Economic Development (DED), Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD), General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police (ADP), Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD), Tadweer (the Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi), Centre for Occupational Safety and Health Abu Dhabi (OSHAD), Industrial Development Bureau, Monitoring and Control Centre, Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada).
The committee aims to identify the priorities of the emirate with regard to technical standards, specifications and documentation from economic, environmental, health, and public safety aspects in keeping with Abu Dhabi 2020 Plan, and develop a timetable for their issuance and implementation over the next 9 to 18 months.
Anas Jawdat Al Barghouthi, Assistant Secretary General for Quality Infrastructure Services at QCC, said: “The key phase in the evaluation of standards projects submitted to QCC is to establish clear priorities. This will serve the broad requirements of all regulators and economic sectors with regards to quality infrastructure, testing, conformity scheme development and issuance of certification in line with the aspirations of our wise leadership.”
Al Barghouthi added: “QCC has previously formed Standing Technical Committees and working groups that convene in every quarter to engage our stakeholders in issuing technical documents. These documents will serve as a unified reference applicable across all sectors.”
The key tasks of the committee include considering the feasibility of the projects received by QCC from concerned entities, and establishing priorities and requirements of the emirate in the area of standards by implementing a five-year plan.
The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products, while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. This is achieved through empowering regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. QCC also sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that the products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
