RSA launches campaign to drive awareness for travel insurance

Dubai - MENA Herald: RSA, a leading provider of insurance services in the region, is launching the UAE’s first-ever campaign to drive awareness for the importance of travel insurance. Designed to encourage people to think about protecting themselves when they plan their holidays, it will seek to engage the public by inviting them to share stories about their unluckiest travel experiences for a chance to win a dream holiday.

The company’s ‘In Search of the UAE’s Unluckiest Traveller’ campaign has been developed in order to address the issue of the low level of insurance penetration in the market. According to research from YouGov, close to 6 in 10 UAE residents say that they have never purchased travel insurance, which leaves many financially exposed to potential losses that can be incurred from mishaps while travelling.

Commenting on the issue, David Harris, Director - Distribution at RSA Insurance, said: “Over the years we have seen that travel insurance is usually the last thing on people’s minds when they are planning a holiday. Many think it is very unlikely that an incident might happen to them or that policies are too expensive; being seen more as a luxury than a necessity, whereas coverage for a 5-day trip can cost as little as AED 50.

“However, in doing so, many are leaving themselves exposed to issues such as medical emergencies, baggage or passport loss, and flight cancellations, all of which are not as uncommon as people might think. Almost everybody either has had or knows someone who has had such an experience, and by getting travel insurance, you can at least receive compensation for these unfortunate incidents.”

By encouraging people to share relatable experiences through social media, RSA’s campaign will look to drive conversations and get people to start thinking about travel insurance. To enter the competition, all one has to do is to share their story of a time when they did not have travel insurance but needed it; mentioning what they had planned, their “unlucky” circumstances, and how they pulled through in the end.

Each participant can enter the competition by submitting their entries via RSA Insurance UAE’s Facebook page or by using the official hashtag #RSATravelTales on their Facebook public profiles. The competition will run for a month from July 10 to August 10, at the end of which, RSA will select the winner who will receive the grand prize of AED 30,000 to spend on their dream trip.
