Sharjah - MENA Herald: Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority organised the fourth edition of the ‘YOU@SHARJAH’ Front Line Training Programme within its Marhabtain initiative to develop the skills of workers in the tourism and hotel sector in the emirate of Sharjah. The three-day course was attended by 30 employees from 16 hotels in Sharjah, including staff handling reception, bookings and room service and other sections in the hospitality industry requiring direct interaction with tourists.

The training sessions, led by specialists in the field of hospitality and tourism, offered expert advice on a number of topics of relevance to hotel employees, most notably effective communication skills and methods of dealing with customer complaints as well as etiquette and anger management. The sessions also highlighted effective ways to promote Sharjah as an attractive tourism destination among hotel guests by equipping the staff with adequate information on the most important leisure and cultural facilities in the emirate.

On the occasion, His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, pointed out that Marhabtain initiative aims to develop human capacity in the tourism sector as a key pillar of the Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021. This programme will enhance the skill levels of staff and improve communication capabilities to enable them to offer the best tourism services based on the highest international standards, he said.

“SCTDA has planned more such workshops and training programmes with the support of international institutes and universities with the aim of ensuring a hospitality atmosphere that meets the highest global standards and providing an exceptional tourism experience for visitors during their stay in Sharjah,” HE Al Midfa said.

Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021 aims to attract 10 million tourists to the emirate by 2021 by focusing on four main pillars – promoting Sharjah as an Ideal Family Tourism Destination, following an Innovative Tourism Approach, developing World Class Tourism Facilities and Capabilities, and strengthening Sharjah’s position as an International Cultural Hub.
