Sharjah - MENA Herald: The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority is participating in GITEX Technology Week being held at Dubai World Trade Centre presenting three booths as a key part of the pavilion of Sharjah led by Sharjah e-government, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah

The participation of the Authority falls within the framework of all the emirate’s government departments, to review their developments in electronic and smart services in various fields. This is led by the vision and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to drive the transition to a smart government.

The Sharjah pavilion at GITEX Technology Week 2016, being held at the Dubai World Trade Center in Dubai until Oct. 20, extends over an area of 1,620 square meters.

The first booth is promoting Sharjah’s smartphone application, revealing the latest upgrades and additions this year. The app can now be viewed on Virtual Reality (VR) screens and glasses, and has been developed to support 3D maps of several tourist attractions around the emirate. Further, the menus for restaurants across Sharjah, serving various cuisines, have been added to the app.

The second booth features a transparent touchscreen where visitors can explore Sharjah’s tourist offerings and attractions through a futuristic high-tech medium. The third booth is equipped with Virtual Reality glasses that allow visitors to view promotional videos about the Emirate of Sharjah and its main attractions and landmarks with sophisticated visual effects.

His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, said: “We, at the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, spare no effort in promoting the emirate as a year-round destination with a wide choice of leisure, cultural, and entertainment offerings to cater to all members of the family.”

“We do hold on to our traditions and heritage and work tirelessly to preserve them,” H.E. explained. “We also strive to modernise the travel and tourism sector in the emirate, along with our methods of promoting it. GITEX Technology Week offers the perfect platform for us to leverage the most cutting-edge technologies to reach out to a wider segment of society – residents and visitors alike – and deliver our message to them.”

The largest IT exhibition in the region, GITEX Technology Week brings together the most innovative and ambitious tech startups to exhibit their ideas to an audience of international investors. This year, more than 400 entrepreneurs and 250 investors and mentors from over 52 countries are set to take part in the event. Participating startups can not only showcase their concepts, but also pitch their projects to investors in a bid to win $130,000.
