STEM Education and Sustainability at Think Science 2016

Dubai - MENA Herald: In line with the United Arab Emirates’ Vision 2021 to invest in science as a key pillar of a knowledge-based economy--Shell this week called for the increased adoption of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) educational degrees for today. The initiative was launched and aimed at Emirati youth for careers that foster sustainable ideas for the future of the country at the Think Science Fair inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, the Managing Director of the Emirates Foundation, in Dubai’s World Trade Centre.

In his keynote presentation to the Think Science students, Ali Al Janabi, newly appointed Vice President and Country Chair for Shell Abu Dhabi, highlighted the value of science education and its far-reaching impact on the economic development in the UAE.

Ali Al Janabi’s presentation entitled “What is Behind Studying Science” addressed the importance of science education in empowering the UAE youth and creating a sustainable economy for the country.

“At Shell we understand that investing in the youth is critical to sustainability and to boosting competitiveness. We are proud of our partnership with the Emirates Foundation and its Think Science Programme which provides a platform to become actively involved in the community and contribute to youth development,” said Ali Al Janabi at the Think Science fair.

Ali Al Janabi was appointed on 1st April 2016 as the Vice President and Country Chairman for Shell Abu Dhabi.

Held under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of Emirates Foundation, Think Science is one of the biggest events of its kind in the region. The event attracts thousands of regional school and university students, parents, academics, and even investors and private sector representatives to a platform where today’s youth can learn more about the solutions they can engineer in the future..

Addressing students and recent graduates, Al Janabi continued: “As the future leaders of the country, embarking on STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), today will enable you to forge a path to a successful tomorrow. There are unlimited opportunities to make a difference through science in the UAE.”

Shell’s partnership with the Emirates Foundation, which is in line with its social investment vision, began when the foundation was first established in 2005. Over the years, Shell has been an active partner, playing an important role in supporting the foundation’s initiatives to support the UAE towards fulfilling its 2021 Vision towards a knowledge-based economy. Through their strategic alliance, Shell and The Emirates Foundation are working together to share knowledge, expertise, models and networks to improve social impact as well as to help promote venture philanthropy for the youth of the UAE and the Middle East.

Think Science is a platform for UAE youth to further develop their curiosity and knowledge in the field of Science and Technology potentially leading to investigating solutions that tackle real world problems. Shell’s stand at the Think Science Fair provides an opportunity and a platform to connect with students and educate them about world Class Technology at Shell.
