Third meeting of Board of Directors of Smart Dubai Office

Dubai - MENA Herald: The Board of Directors of Smart Dubai Office (SDO) held its third meeting led by H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board. The meeting is part of the steps taken by the board to implement the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler Dubai, to transform Dubai into the smartest, happiest and the most innovative city on Earth by 2017.
The meeting is part of efforts made by the SDO’s board of directors to ensure all Dubai government establishments are working as one team to achieve excellence and success, making future forecasts and supporting the Emirate's process of comprehensive smart development, to make Dubai a role model for the connected and integrated smart city that uses modern technology to serve its citizens and residents and achieve their happiness.
“We adopt general policies, strategic plans and initiatives on information technology and smart government in Dubai, to ensure a smart transformation, the continuity of innovation, the supervision and provision of guidance for smart transformation, and smart technology in general. We also work to approve joint initiatives, projects, and services that facilitate smart transformation in coordination with the relevant government bodies. This supports the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,” said Al Tayer.
Al Tayer emphasised the importance of combining efforts in the near future to focus on tracking the implementation of all the initiatives through the various performance indicators to achieve H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision of transforming Dubai into to the smartest city in the world by 2017.
H.E. Dr. Aisha bint Butti bin Bishr, Director General of SDO, outlined the progress of work related to the implementation of major decisions, initiatives and projects including the adoption of a new corporate brand, to meet the objectives set by SDO to provide smart and innovative e-services to all categories of society, while relying on qualified staff, and advanced working procedures and technical systems, that meet international standards of quality and best practices.
The third meeting of the SDO's board was attended by H.E. Ahmed Mohammed bin Humaidan, Vice Chairman, and board members H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, H.E. Yousef Al Shebani, General Director of Dubai Centre for E-Security, Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of SDO, Colonel Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, Director General of Smart Services Department at Dubai Police, Mohammed Abdullah Al Zafeen, Director of IT Department at Dubai Municipality, and Younis Abdul Aziz Al Nasser, Assistant Director General of SDO.
After the meeting, SDO’s members of the board visited Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA)’s Cyber Defence Centre, the first specialist cyber defence centre of its kind in Dubai Government to protect against potential cyber risks by proactive surveillance of DEWA’s services and technical assets.
DEWA continuously adopts the best techniques to assure the security and reliability of its services and is keen to strengthen the UAE’s position as a model for countries that make the happiness, security, and comfort of their people a priority. DEWA continues to remain committed to contributing to making Dubai a leader in the eyes of other developing smart cities by making use of the most advanced practices in information security, as one of the foundations of smart cities.
The Cyber Defence Centre predicts threats ahead of time and conducts any required pre-emptive procedures to protect data, by monitoring services and technical assets around the clock, handling incidents with care, and limiting the effects of potential threats.
