UAE a growing market for Norwegian Seafood

Dubai – MENA Herald: October 27-29 the Norwegian Seafood Council attended the Seafex Expo in Dubai for the first time. The UEA is a growing market for Norwegian seafood, making Seafex 2015 an important arena for the Norwegian Seafood industry. Over 30 representatives from the Norwegian Seafood industry visited Dubai Seafex this year. Norwegian companies which primarily export Norwegian Salmon, Salmon Trout, Cod, King Crab, Scallops, Blue mussels, Cold Water Prawns and Mackerel were present at the Seafex Expo.

  • Seafex 2015 proved to be a great arena for establishing activity in the Emirates and in the Middle East in general. Visitors from all over the region showed great interest in our Seafood from Norway, says Ingrid Dahl Skarstein, Manager Emerging Markets in the Norwegian Seafood Council.

UAE in total are currently importing more than 100 tons per week of Norwegian Seafood. Long-distance flight freight of Norwegian Seafood to the region is increasing. The city of Dubai is already in the 10th  place on the list of the most important cities importing ultra-fresh salmon by air, currently flying in about 100 tonnes per week of Norwegian Salmon, an increase of 82% compared to the same period in 2014. Dubai is also an important hub for re-export of seafood from Norway. Today, Norway is one of the world’s largest suppliers of seafood, including wild and farmed fish, with more than 33 million meals including Norwegian Seafood consumed worldwide each day. Seeing new opportunities globally, the Norwegian Seafood Council is increasing the investments in emerging markets, UAE being one of them.

  • During the Seafex Expo, the Norwegian Seafood Council hosted an exclusive evening of Norwegian Seafood for invited guests, business partners and colleagues. An event we seek to repeat in future years to present the palette of Seafood from Norway, says Ingrid Dahl Skarstein, Manager Emerging Markets, Norwegian Seafood Council
