DEWA and RWE sign MoU on innovation in renewable energy R&D

Dubai - MENA Herald: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Germany’s RWE Energy Group, to enhance cooperation in innovation, research and development in energy and smart grids, scientific research, and sustainable development. This supports DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world class utility and its strategy to promote and establish innovation in all energy fields.

The MoU was signed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and Dr. Klaus Grellmann, Chief Executive Officer of RWE Consulting GmbH.

Al Tayer emphasised that the MoU supports DEWA’s strategy to adopt innovation as a key pillar and a corporate value, to achieve the Dubai Plan 2021 to become a city of happy, creative, and empowered people. It also supports Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world.

“Signing the MoU with RWE supports our efforts to achieve the Smart Dubai initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world, and speed up the implementation of our smart initiatives to contribute effectively to the sustainable development of Dubai and provide innovative services to our customers. DEWA is committed to enhancing cooperation with local and international government and private organisations to improve its services for customers, and develop its operations to the highest levels of availability, reliability, and efficiency,” said Al Tayer.

The MoU, between DEWA and RWE enhances cooperation and the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and research in renewable energy, and technical, economic, and environmental analysis of alternative energy scenarios. The MoU’s scope also includes testing of smart grid measures, energy storing and efficiency, improved reliability of solar cells, and value-added products and services for smart grids and cooperation in academic and scientific programmes.

We look forward to working with DEWA in solar and other alternative and renewable sources of energy. We intend to set an innovative role model in the region for the sustainable development and ease of connecting renewable energy sources with existing electricity grids.
