Dubai International Financial Centre Wins Distinction at 2015 Emirates Energy Awards

Dubai – MENA Herald: Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has beenhonouredat the 2015 Emirates Energy Awards with a silver distinction in the ‘Small Energy Projects’ category.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Emirates Energy Award highlights the commendable efforts and best practices of the public and private sectors in implementing energy efficiency initiatives for ensuringsustainability and protection of the environment.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, attended the ceremony to announce the esteemed winners.

The award recognisesDIFC’s efforts in devising and implementing an innovative energy savings plan for the DIFC Truck Tunnel, which was built to serve the majority of the buildings in the financial hub. The DIFC Truck Tunnel includes a 1.7 km long support corridor with twolevels – one for heavy vehicle access and one to support infrastructure services in the centre.

DIFC conceptualised the Truck Tunnelto address the rapidly growing energy consumption levels in Dubai. The property management team at DIFC launched a feasibility study and data analysis to examine techniques that could enhance energy saving for the Truck Tunnel through leveraging international best practices.

Speaking on the occasion,ArifAmiri, Chief Executive Officerof DIFC Authority, said, “DIFC’s commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability is a part of our long-term strategy. Our operations are aligned with the wider objectives of Dubai and the UAE towards achieving the UAE Vision 2021. We are proud to receive this validation for our Truck Tunnel, a state-of-the-art value additionthat greatly eases congestion of heavy vehicle traffic within our dynamic ecosystem.
